Q: problem with usb audio in el capitan

I recently updated my 13-inch MacBook Pro (mid 2010) to El Capitan and I'm having problems recording audio from a usb device. I never had any issues recording guitar from my Line 6 POD HD500X on to Logic Pro X until I updated to El Capitan. I'm not really sure what the problem is. I tried messing around with both Logic Pro X preferences and System preferences but have not had any success. I also updated the drivers on my POD HD500X but still have the same issue. I also tried to see if it would work in GarageBand but it was the same problem. I also looked into the Audio MIDI Setup application on my Mac but nothing seemed to fix this issue. My last guess is that there is a problem with El Capitan.

I am very disappointed with this update. It truly is a letdown for me. If anyone has any idea of how I can fix this problem, please let me know.

There is a problem with Line 6 USB drivers and El Capitan ( along with other 3rd party devices)

You may need to restore from your backup if working drivers are not available yet.

A little research and common sense would have helped, before upgrading OS X......

I am also having problems with my DAC (TEAC UD-H01). It appears that there are many audio devices affected by this OSx. By the way, I switched back to Yosemite and the DAC worked fine. I have Yosemite on another HDD but it is a pain to reboot to Yosemite everything I want to listen to music.

You MAY find that your usb drive is formatted as NTFS. It will also be set to READ ONLY!!

Instead of re-formatting to Mac OS system I got around that problem by downloading and using Paragon. I have used that for years, hence I got caught by surprise when upgrading to El Capitan. Previous upgrades didn't seem to have this problem.

    imacimacimac,

We are talking about USB Audio devices here... not USB Hard drives.....

    Cheers..

Have you (or anyone else here) had weird sound issues with the *headphone* port. I have a pair of cheap speakers (trying to avoid the USB compatibility issues) that are 3.5mm.

I thought I was so clever.

I have an aggregate output I created in MIDI and it's been lovely. I could switch back and forth b/t headphones and speaker without having to change anything.

Until I upgraded to El Capitan.

Safari, this morning, tried to watch something on YouTube.

It sounded like Linda Blair had entered my machine. And not when she sounded like a little girl.

I poked around the settings for a bit, tried Chrome, came back to Safari, switched to a single output rather than the aggregate and boo yah! I have regular sound.

So, nothing third party. Nothing USB. But aggregate sound outputs release Satan into your sound.

Perhaps that help us diagnose? (Or at least not feel like it's all hopeless... again...)

    What are you actually aggregating?

Wonder why so much is changed and devices become incompatible...... what's the greater purpose/benefit?

Or is it just carelessness.... seems most of the recent OSX upgrades cause serious compatibility problems without any real benefit that I can see.

Maybe just the by-product of the rush to bring OSX and iOS under a single platform?

Good news, I updated to El Capitan 10.11.1 and my USB port is now running fine! My music sounds better I could have sworn....but this is due to having to listen to crappy iMac built-in speakers while waiting for the update...

I have a usb noise cancelling headphone/mic that is helpful for reducing noise on webinars and teleseminars. At upgrading the OS, at first they would not work at all, and after reinstalling the system all I get is noise.

This along with other issues with El Capitan makes if feel like I'm gambling when I start up the system as to what is going to happen. In my view it is the worst OS upgrade I have experienced with Apple. I waited until after the first update. From now on I'll wait until at least 3.

I have the same issue with a Shure PG42, and what ***** is that I upgraded because I was having backup/connection issues with my iPhone 6s.

Sigh... Honestly, I never thought USB mic drivers would be an issue in the update.

It's not as though they are fringe use anymore, what with podcasts and skyping.

Am still getting only static with my USB Logitech noise cancelling headphones and mic after the 2nd OS update.

Like you VeganDragan I never thought this would be an issue.

I did get some very helpful Apple tech support with slow mouse and system functioning, and needless to say am very relieved!!!
