my ipad mini (first gen) keeps crashing since ios9 upgrade

My ipad mini has become almost unusable after the upgrade with performance issues in almost every way imaginable. Apps crash (including Apple apps like mail and Safari) and 3rd party apps (Flipboard, Instapaper, Dark Sky weather app ... long list here)

I'm thinking my hardware is maybe too old to support ios9 (but then why did Apple let me upgrade to it?) ... downgrading to ios8 seems like a dead-end now that Apple has stopped signing ios8.4.1 (I'm not even sure what this means).

Any suggestions to help me fix this?

Much appreciated - Dave

I'm having similar trouble with an iPad, last one before the iPad Air, but not my iPhone 6 Plus.

In my case, it seems to be mainly a game app called Boom Beach, which has become unusable, but at first it was crashing out while using Facebook until the Facebook update came out.

The apps you mention, like Boom Beach, are not mainstream apps, so I'm wondering if it's just that some apps haven't caught up with their updates yet and I also figured it might be the social media aspect of some apps.

Last couple of days though, it has crashed when no apps were open but I had, for example, the General system settings open in the background.

I already tried deleting and reloading Boom Beach, but it didn't solve the problem.
