Selfie Stick not working on iPhone 6S/6S Plus

Asking this for my mother who just upgraded from 5S to the 6S. She has a selfie stick and it works fine on the 5S and my sister's iPhone 6, but will not work on her new 6S. When you plug into 3.5 headphone jack and push button, it won't take pictures. I then tested with the 6S Plus I have, same thing, nothing.

Is there a feature somewhere in iOS 9 maybe or the 6S model (or PLUS) that needs to be turned on for the camera to work with this to use the button to take a picture? I can't find an answer anywhere so I thought I would try a post here. Thanks!

I had this same problem with a cheap (free) selfie-stick I got from a convention. At first, I thought it was the stick itself... but it worked with my wife's Android device. I didn't think it could be the iPhone headphone jack, because my headphones worked there, but... that's what it was. I used a light to look down and could see some fluff. I used a toothpick to pull out a dozen tiny little fluffs and then - selfie-stick works.

I would assume the update for iOS broke whatever the selfie stick was using to trigger the shutter for the phone. Possibly an issue with the phone itself but much more likely an iOS issue that the manufacturer would have to deal with.

Best option?

Toss the stick and get a new one from a well-known vendor (or don't replace it at all 😉).
