El Capitan - printer fails with 'filter failed'

Hey you Apple-Maniacs out there,

finally i got a reason to ask our mighty community for support/help but the reason is very unpleasant for me...

Since the last OS update from Yosemite to El Capitan my printer is not working, it's been still recognized but it fails everytime with the same error.

I am talking about an Epson AcuLaser M1400 connected via USB to my Air and sadly the printer is working with a Windows Laptop, so the issue has to be on the Mac 😢.

performed TS:

> I already downloaded the newest drivers from Apple and Epson: no sucess

> tried to delete and add the printer several times and even restarted my mac

> changed toner

> doesn't matter what kind of data type/document/apps are used

So any advices or even solutions?

Thanks a lot!

Hi all.

From today I got the same problem on an HP Printer 1610.

I tried to re-install the printer (HW) and the HP drivers (ver. 3,1) without success.

I also changed the USB cable with a new one (tested).

Sometimes the error appears and the printer doesn't start printing pages.

Not every time, not every printing.

I've a new iMac with OS X El Capitan installed from origin, and at the beginning the problem "filter failed" did not appear.

I suppose a problem rised after the last software upgrade.

I checked the computer name, and it is present in "General Folder" of Printer Utility (System Preferences).

Do you think a bug in S/O System Integrity Protection (SIP) too?

Please help me.

Thanks a lot

Hi all again.

I did the entire procedure described on page 3 (disabling System Integrity Protection in Recovery Mode, then re-enabling SIP after clean installation on HP Drivers), bur never changed.

The procedures does not apply to HP Printer, o seems to be so.

Help help help please...

The drivers provided by Apple are very old, dated Oct 13 2013 (version 3.1).

No good!

The Operating System had a lot of release upgrade/update, and the HP printer driver are still the same (obsolete).

Why?????????

😢

P.S. no changes in HP Support Site too.....👿

Sorry for the high number of posts, but I wish inform you that today I got a new HP Printer (Model Envy 5530), sold by Apple Store too.

The drivers are dated December 2015, and the printer seems to work correctly.

First I resetted the Printing System on MacOS, then I installed the HP Software (downloaded from HP Support Site), and at the end I connected the printer via USB cable (because the room is not fully covered by wireless network).

The S/O recognized correctly the Printer, and a new HP Folder (containing all Utilities) appeared on Application Folder.

I do think that there is a real mismatch between old HP Drivers and the new MacOS El Capitan.

I hope that one (or both) of them (HP, Apple) will work to solve the bug.

😉

Dear fellows,

thank your for participating in this topic and to show workarounds but it's not necessary anymore:

Check this link:

http://www.epson.co.uk/gb/en/viewcon/corporatesite/products/mainunits/support/95 38

under "drivers" you can start downloading the new drivers.

This driver seems to be not (correctly) certified but it's from Epson's page and it's working.

If you get a message that this driver "is not certified blabla" just open it this way:

1. After the message go to "settings"

2. then "security"

3. you should be under "general" and then allow to open it manually.

4. BOOM. Installations starts and it works.

Finally got my Aculaser CX17 working using a recent driver.

You can found it here: http://www.epson.com.sg/epson_singapore/printers_and_all_in_ones/laser/product.p age?product_name=Epson_Aculaser_CX17NF#

I uninstalled the printers I had, installed the driver, rebooted, installed the printer again, and that was it.

Hope it helps anyone with the same prob.

Greetings!
