Want to use Photoshop in El Capitan

since upgrading to El Capitan my Mac does not recognise my camera or flash card is recognised. Open Adobe Bridge CS4 and that also says nothing connected. Open Apple Photos and it says camera is connected. How do I get Photoshop to work in El Capitan. I do not want to use Photos. How do I get El Capitan to let me use Adobe Photoshop and my Canon camera?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

Seems I a m stuck in the middle then. In fact the problem is before that - El Capitan does not recognise my Canon camera or my flash card if I take it out of the camera and insert it into the slot on my Mac. Open Apple Photos and they are both there. So it would seem with El Capitan I have to download from my camera via Apple Photos then export out of Photos to continue as I would have done before with Photoshop etc. Hardly call that progress.

Are you saying that it shows up in Photos, thus it is recognized and mounted by the file system?

If that is the case, it would be some issue with Adobe not seeing the device.

I am in same boat Nigel. I am having problem with bridge CS6. I was able to import images and movies from iPhone and SD card before El Capitan upgrade. Now I get device not found but am able to see either device connected in photos. Photoshop will still open files but i can not import via Bridge, which is a major part of my workflow.

It may be an Adobe issue but if it worked fine until upgrade makes me think otherwise. I haven't found a fix as of yet from either Apple or Adobe.

For clarity: I give Apple support 10 out of 10 - brilliant listeners and able to interpret an issue and provide a decent solution.

I connect my Canon camera, or put the flash card in the slot in my Mac, or connect my Windows phone. They will not show as a connected device in Finder but I can then let Apple Photos do its stuff as it automatically recognises the devices even though they are not appearing as connected. Once imported into Photos I can keep the images there and export the originals to the folders I choose.

Or I can use the Apple Image Capture App (which recognises them as devices) to import the photos directly into the folders I choose without having to go through Apple Photos.

Whilst I have not previously experienced security problems with various software programs auto downloading images when connecting a device I do appreciate the potential for risk. I also appreciate that this "new" way means I have to think about what I am doing and physically take an action to "authorise" the download from the device through an Apple app which if it adds up to a more secure MAC, that is fine by me.

Thanks to all those who put forward suggestions - it was good as it helped me be clear in my own head where the issue was.

For further clarity - I am not an Apple employee and have only a basic IT literacy. Just glad that they are available on the end of a phone and really do grasp the human element of it all - me.

Whilst I first spotted what I thought was the problem with Adobe, it became apparent it was a not an Adobe specific problem e.g. when connecting my Windows Phone by USB cable to my MAC it would not connect as a device. But if I opened Photos it then found my device.

This annoyed me as I prefer to use my own existing storage on my MAC. The solution via APPLE was to use the image capture app which sure enough recognised my windows phone and allowed me to import my images without using Photos so problem solved. I can then edit using whatever photo software I choose, whether it is Adobe or not.
