Want to use Photoshop in El Capitan

since upgrading to El Capitan my Mac does not recognise my camera or flash card is recognised. Open Adobe Bridge CS4 and that also says nothing connected. Open Apple Photos and it says camera is connected. How do I get Photoshop to work in El Capitan. I do not want to use Photos. How do I get El Capitan to let me use Adobe Photoshop and my Canon camera?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

Then both Apple and Adobe should work together to solve the problem. I'm not particularly working on Photos, I've used Aperture till Apple dropped it and now I'm using Lightroom. All I know is El Capitan still has numerous incompatibilities. As it's a Windows Phone, have you tried to get support from Microsoft ?

It is NOT Apple's responsibility to hold the hands of every 3rd party application developer.

It is THEIR responsibility to sure that THEIR apps are compatible with any OS upgrade.

Developer versions of El Capitan were available for nearly a year for developers to

test and fix their apps. If they chose not to, that is THEIR problem.

FWIW, Adobe likely does not want to bother with older versions of their products any way

because they want people to become enslaved to their ball and chain Creative Cloud subscription

model!!

I've said the same thing to Adobe, but it's Apple's responsibility if they didn't mind stopping Aperture nearly without notice, saying Photos was enough for Apple users. I know Adobe had time to test El Capitan. If people want to have a WindowsPhone then it's Microsoft's problem to give support to their customers. And I personally provided a link to the discussion about Lightroom an Photoshop, so don't mistake and shout at me, I'm NOT defending ANY company (seems to me Caps Lock is a key you love). Advising people to ask Adobe or Microsoft why it doesn't work is just what I did.
And it's simply a fact, Microsoft and Adobe will work with Apple if they need support, Apple won't let customers leave them either.

It is entirely up to Apple which products they make and which ones they stop making, Aperture has been dropped (and not without warning) it has not been replaced. Apple just got out of the highend Photography market. Photos is a free replacement for iPhoto.

Adobe does not support CS4 in 10.11, in fact they don't support it at all, it was dropped from Adobe's lifecycle several years ago.

Apple has changed their OS, and one or more of those changes will have an effect on this legacy software you are trying to use.

This presents you with several choices:

Go back to an instance of your OS when it worked with a version of CS4 that supported it. If you have a Time Machine backup, or the old installer you can do this, or upgrade to a version of Photoshop that is officially supported at this time (CC2015), or done some research and determine if you needed to use CS4 you should not have upgraded to OS 10.11 without an exit strategy, or install a legacy OS on a secondary partition or another drive, however none of these solutions will work until you take OS 10.11 AND Adobe CS4 out of the same equation.

if you feel Apple should suddenly decide they need to fix an issue for a 9 year old piece of software they don't develop and potentially open the door to them fixing all other legacy issues with 3rd party abandonware and possible cause more stability problems elsewhere post here and it's not advised you hold your breath.

Adobe has discovered that Bridge CC with Mac OS 10.11 (El Capitan) doesn't work with many USB devices to import images (iPhone included): https://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/bridge-and-el-capitan.html

Apple has stated: "The USB stack is completely redesigned to increase stability and performance compared to Mac OS 10.10. Applications and third-party drivers for vendor-specific USB devices may require modification." This is something APPLE changed, that hopefully Adobe can respond to, for now there is no real fix. I use this workaround:

Import the images with Apple's Photos app

  • Choose File > Export > Export Unmodified Original

Save the files where you want them

  • Batch rename the images and add metadata in Adobe Bridge

There is also a workaround for some Android-based devices, you can change the device mode from PTP/MTP to USB mode/Mass storage mode (see instructions on how to do this from your device vendor). This article on the same issue with Photoshop Elements has instructions: https://helpx.adobe.com/elements-organizer/kb/elements-organizer-does-not-recogn ize-some-devices---mac-os-10-1.html
