How do I unclock safari locked by interpol scam?

How do I unlock Safari that has been locked by an Interpol scam?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, close Safari, and then launch it with the Shift key held down. If the message reappears, disconnect the computer from the Internet and erase that site from the browser history.

I had to disable Java on the Mac and then specifically on Safari. Then restart and reenable Java. This cured the problem.
