Folders on top in El Capitan
Since El Capitan killed XtraFinder and TotalFinder with Metal we need El Capitan to provide a solution to have Folders on top.

How can folders on top NOT be considered a default option? It boggles the mind. My mind is boggled.
Why would it be a default? In my 30 years of using a Mac, I've never needed that "feature."
Hey Barney-15E,
With all due respect and no pun intended, exactly that's why apple didn't think it is needed! If you are using Mac for 30 long years then it is very likely that you don't know what's out of the box there in the world!
Have you ever give a thought that since so many people are taking this as a 'point of discussion', there might be some merit to it?
Anyway, even if we give a benefit of doubt to the subject matter, apple should give a better thought of default presentation of contents of a folder in an order where folders are apart from the files and that every content should be in the order of alphabets, unless the user wishes differently. That way it is easier to scan through the contents-list to spot the needed ones quickly.
Having said that, for newcomers to the Macintosh world, what we the mac users usually do is -- in the folder just type the name(or at least some initial letters of) that we are looking for, the Mac OS centres the found similarities in the view. Hope that helps some till Apple takes a different route of default presentation!

I've been using Windows at work since 3.1, so nearly as long as a Mac. Folders on top gets in the way of typing the name of a file I want to select. Type one letter and it jumps to the closest folder. Type another letter and it goes to another folder with that first letter.

Seems like someone is confusing 'using Macs' with 'using Macs exclusively'.

As a fraction of the User base? It's utterly insignificant. There may be some merit to the suggestion, and for those that want it - as has been stated exhaustively in the thread - there are multiple ways to achieve it.
Where's the crowd?
Have you noticed no one wants folders in the middle?
I like them in a big heap at the bottom generally, like real life 🙂
I don't have any real life folders. I should get some and organize. 😎
It's easy, let gravity handle their placement.
Should I buy aluminium folders? They're heavier.
Gravity is not affected by materials used in construction, they all fall at the same rate, and in the same direction. Down.
I guess I've lost my sense of humor. I was trying to impress you with my spelling of aluminum. 😝
Its weight is unaffected by its spelling, much. 🙂
you sure? 😁
For those who are desperate to have their folders on top, s has been mentioned by myself and others, you can achieve that with Path Finder 7.
In real life you'll need to support them, hot air will do that.😎
