Folders on top in El Capitan
Since El Capitan killed XtraFinder and TotalFinder with Metal we need El Capitan to provide a solution to have Folders on top.

I do not understand the asinine behavior of the Apple Developers and the total inability to have folders or an option to have folders always on top then files. It has been requested for years dare even say decades and the continue to ignore people...

For some asinine reason, they added the completely useless organizational structure to Sierra.
And Apple devs blew it again, by making "Folders on top" work ONLY in "sort by name" mode. Why not make it universal, so I can sort by date and still see folders on top?
Sometimes it feels like they add long-awaited features in such irrational "appleesque" ways to spite their users.

Why doesn't Apple incorporate every possible scenario anyone could possibly want, make the OS 10TB then everyone should be happy.
I'd like to second the motion.
Folders on top of what? And where?
Very odd question. I think it is obvious.
You have files and folders in another folder. So the answer is - show me folders first and then files. It is a headache if you have a folder in 1000 of files directory.
XtraFinder and TotalFinder used to help us with it. But El Capitan ruined this completely without providing an alternative!
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
I'm baffled. Folders show up on top in the list view, for me. At least, if I select "kind" for arrangement. In fact, folders come up first in any view as long as I use "kind" arrangement.

This is not the way out.
1. folders on top should be in any view. that's the crucial point.
2. folders should be first even when you sort by date modified because folders are the priority and files are not. There is a logic in that.
And yes Eric, I did send my feedback about that. The problem is that people seem to get used to any difficulties and keep silent. I do hope that XtraFinders and TotalFinder users will send this also to Apple. I do also hope that other users will do the same who do understand how important it is.

Sounds like a personal preference. I'd rather files on top. "That's the way it should be".
Yes, it is a personal preference. That is why the request is for an option to choose "folders on top".
Really need that tho.
im just trying to find an alternative for that but i couldnt.
pathfinder could be one, but i really want the stock finder with some extra functions like xtrafinder.
the most what i really need are the folders on top, cut & past, fn+f2 to rename it, enter to get in the folders, and also tabs..
so im just waiting for Apple, but less hope 😟 since I have Macs from 2010 but the only solution was totalfinder and xtrafinder, and now they killed it. "
This is why i only installed el capitan for my 2nd computer. On my primary (5k imac) just stay yosemite for a time when my problems got solved.

The finder does have tabs.
If we are going for a wish list, I would also like to see an option to show system/hidden files. I don't need this ability very often. Maybe better it is left as a command line option.
Sorry, yes. But i mean the " + " icon what I can find near the tabs in xtrafinder. It makes my work so comfortable, since it duplicates where I have been and can step backward also forward.
