ViewNX 2 Nikon software doesn't work with OS X El Capitan

Hello,

The ViewNX 2 Nikon software doesn't work with OS X El Capitan. The last version of the software was ok with OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.

The installation app can't run the program. Anybody could help me with a solution? I've tried to reinstall but it doesn't work anyway.

thanks,

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11)

Dear All,

I'm running El Capitan 10.11.2 and Nikon View NXi was working all right but suddenly began to give me problems. Transfer worked to get the pictures out of my camera, but when trying to see them in View NXi, the would come up for an instant and then the viewing screen would go completely white. I uninstalled and reinstalled, but the installer stuck on the Additional Installation screen as described above, and the installation would not work. I went back to my original installation disc that came with my Nikon D750, which always worked before, but this now hangs on the Additional Installation menu item and the installation will not complete. Any progress on this? I have no intention of going back to an older software version for my Mac, but will continue to use the El Capitan. I do have Lightroom and iPhoto in a pinch, but I did like some features of View Nx. Any idea when Nikon will update? I also could not get one of their firmware lens updates to work, either, the error message saying that no software was found to update!

Nikon have also issued a warning about a new bug in the Macintosh version of Capture NX-Dsoftware too - if you change the name of a folder, all files in that folder will be deleted: 7 January 2016 https://nikoneurope-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/66198/~/to-users-of- capture-nx-d-software---macintosh

If Nikon get enough requests sent to their Nikon Professional Service (NPS) team https://www.nikonpro.com/ and product department https://nikoneurope-en.custhelp.com/app/contact_us. they may do compatible upgrades for El Capitan as they did for Yosemite .

Thanks a lot Mirror of existence. Your procedure (message Oct 27, 2015 1:43 AM) worked great.

Step 7 didn't work, to get the strings corrected, here is what I did :

- In finder, open the Application folder

- With Ctrl key pressed, click on ViewNX2.app and select Show Package Contents

- Frow Pacifist, copy "Contents of ViewNX 2_EN.pkg/Applications/Nikon Software/ViewNX 2/ViewNX 2.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj" and "RegionConfig.xml" directly to Contents/Resources

Welcome back to View NX2 !

Dear All,

Updating my post of January 9th, 2016 -- although I was able to install View NXi from the download page that I indicated, it didn't work any better than the original version that was giving me problems. The images come up on the screen but immediately turn white and cannot be viewed. Older versions of Capture NX-D and Picture Control Utility seem to be working as they should be, so I can turn to them if I need to use ViewNX on my photos. I talked to Nikon and they are aware of the problems -- hopefully they will be corrected soon.

As for the lens update, they sent the file to me directly and I have it installed in my camera, but I don't think that does much good if it can't be installed on my computer -- the photo editing programs will not be able to find the lens info/updates if they are only installed in the camera, but I don't have the new lenses included in the update at the present time, so I guess it doesn't matter much -- I'll just wait on Nikon because I have Lightroom and Photoshop Camera Raw to work with and they do a good job. I do like how ViewNX corrects Lateral as well as Axial Color Aberration, and its Active D Lighting and Saturation tools can work very well on the right image. And I also use ViewNX to print out contact sheets in PDF format to keep my files organized -- so, I hope Nikon fixes things soon!

Dear All,

Just to update my post above, ViewNX1 is working pretty well for me now, although it periodically crashes and must be restarted. The problem with the images immediately turning white was my fault -- I had "Show Lost Shadows" inadvertently checked under the Image Menu, and that turned everything white. When I unchecked it, the images viewed normally.

I'm working with E lCapital 10.11.4.

Hi Barbara, while I was looking for something else I came across your posts. If I may, I'd like to ask you a couple of questions: What are you using to transfer your pictures from your Nikon Camera to the computer? After the Nikon Transfer app became obsolete with El Capitan (v 10.11.4) I've been using Photos for transferring the pictures from my Nikon D5500. The problem is that ViewNX 2 can't recognize them and I can't use it to view/edit the pictures. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Manuel

Dear mxo11,

I use the latest version of Nikon Transfer 2, version 2.12.1, updated May10-2016/S-VNXI__-010201MF-ALLIN-ALL___.dmg -- which also updated View NX-I to 1.2.1 64bit. This is an all in one update. However, I have been using Nikon Transfer 2 for months without the latest update, using El Capitan, and it has worked for me after some crashes and reinstalling. I like Nikon View NX-I and Transfer2 for certain things, and I use iPhoto for others. If you update to the latest all in one View NX-I update version, perhaps this will solve your problems. I was told by Nikon to use View NX-I, not View NX-2 with El Capitan. Go directly to Nikon's download website and update to the latest version of NX-I and give it a shot. If I can be of further help, let me know.

Dear mxo11

I always use Adobe bridge and Photoshop to do my editing and organizing, but I have found that View NX-I does some things better, such as offering wo forms of chromatic aberration correction (which is sometimes needed), being able to print contact sheets in PDF format which Bridge no longer supports, and various other things that come up. I rarely use iPhoto but did find just recently that it was a super way to group photos into one source for a project that we're working on. Just drag the images into iPhoto and they are all in one place, quick and easy. Not that Bridge or View NX-I couldn't do that, but I just found it worked very well in iPhoto. So, I use what works the best from the available choices, but Adobe Bridge and Photoshop are my main photo editing tools and organizers. You'll find out what works best for you! Good luck!
