iphone 6s camera lag

I’m experiencing an issue with my iPhone 6s where the camera app is sometimes very laggy when starting up. Most of the time things are fine – I open the camera app and instantly see images from the rear camera. However, on occasion I will get either the last photo taken showing or (more often) see really slow updates (like a frame a second) from the camera for 5-6 seconds before it becomes usable. I haven’t seen anything online about others experiencing this issue, so it would be good to know if this is an isolated hardware issue or something others are seeing (and likely to be fixed by a future software update). FWIW I have done a complete restore on the phone via iTunes without the issue being solved.

Thanks Robber80 to write also in the iphone 7 thread.

Apple, as any sw company, will fix a bug only if there is a significant number of people complaining.

They have limited resources for an incredible number of bugs so you would do the same.

The only thing that we could do is raising our voice and send as many bug reports as people affected. I have personally sent one report through Apple feedback.

I guess that it would have been better through apple bug report but i don't have a developer account so I can't. If anybody has this account, please do it...

If they realize a lot of bug reports (iphone 7 included) we have more options and maybe they will pay more attention to willo26 open case...

Regards!

hello guys, i have some news.

i have written here so many times and kept on eye the topic regularly. i have experienced the lag from the first day i bought 6s which has now been 1 year.

but with the ios 10 its has been almost a week i havent had this lag at all which surprises me. not a single time. even from the lockscreen!

i have updated the phone through itunes (it was about 2,5 GB)

one thing i realise is that the live photo isnt working now. it shows its turned on but it doesnt take live photo. i have had this lag on 9.3.5 too so then turning off and on had fixed it but now with ios10 and not experiencing the camera lag, i am not going to do that !!!

i am not even thinking to turn off my phone at all.

i have always believed its related to this live photo feautre but i am not sure about it. now almost a week without a single lag. i'll keep you posted.

well, you seem to have misunderstood me. i didnt suggest turning off the live photo feature. i explained that the live photo feature is now turned on on my phone but it doesnt take a live picture which is also a lag. But its fix is simple, turning off and on again works it out ( it takes live pic again )

i am not suggesting a fix for our long lasting camera lag, i just show that it may be related to that feature.

also ios 10 seems to have fixed my camera lag for now. its been 6 days without a lag. it doesnt mean it has fixed it, i am watching.

It would be interesting, if you could confirm regarding the camera lag on iphone 6s in the following scenario:

1) Open the native camera app.

2) Close the native camera app by pressing a home button (important: do not delete the camera app from the recently used apps in multitasking).

3) Make 5 calls or more in a row, each call 3 sec duration or longer. E.g. call your voicemail to simulate a day calls.

4) After making the calls, open the native camera app from the lockscreen. Normally you should experience a camera lag in this step.

Thanks for your tests in advance.

After reading some of these posts and seeing how few people are on here complain about this problem, its rather obvious to me that not all phones are acting up. I know for a fact that all iPhone 6s (plus or regular) and newer phones that I restore with my backed up content will make the phone camera lag like crazy. Like others have said on here as well, It happens 100% if the camera app is open in the back ground and at least 1 phone call has been made before opening the camera again. I do notice that the more phone calls made between the first opening of the camera and the next opening makes the lag longer and longer.

I also know for a fact that my brothers phone does this under all of the above conditions exactly like mine. This includes iPhone 6s and iPhone 7.

My wife phone does NOT do this at all on both iPhone 6s or 7.

This has to be a software issue that is being carried over with most peoples backed up and restored content. If some people are complaining about a 1-2 second delay they may have a different issue. The delay i'm having and I believe most people on this thread are having can be anywhere from 5-20 seconds.

Hi Robber80.

Two comments about your interesting post:

After reading some of these posts and seeing how few people are on here complain about this problem, its rather obvious to me that not all phones are acting up.

The point is that a vast majority doesn't call through their iphone. And even people that call from time to time will have a 1-2 seconds lag that is considered almost normal. This thread wouldn't exist for that mini lag.

I'll give you an example. When I realized this nasty bug, a workmate (6s too) swore to me that he never never had had this bug. Some weeks later, this call connection was found: I took his phone, took mine, and performed our test. 10 calls. And guess what? There was a lag in both iphones!!!! The same 5 seconds lag. He was amazed...

As he barely used his iphone to call, he had never realized in 6 months that it existed (and actually he has forgotten 😟)

My wife phone does NOT do this at all on both iPhone 6s or 7.

If this is true it could be an important clue. I'd appreciate if you could do a more controlled test:

1) Take both iphones, yours and your wife's.

2) Do the test at the same time. (open camera at both devices, call N times, then reopen camera at both iphones)

3) Compare the lag result.

If you find that there is a significant difference (for example, 6 seconds against 2) please post it as soon as possible!!!!

It could be a chance to figure out how to mitigate it.

Some of the people in this thread (and also myself) have tried any conceivable configuration possible with no success (clean install and only native apps, no restoring, disabling icloud, disabling live photos, disabling mobile data, disabling wifi and so on...). But maybe there is some missing point and your wife's configuration could help.

If the lag is the same, we'll have to wait. Again...

By the way, has anyone tested this in iOs 10.1 beta???

6S plus here. As previously posted, I've the lag problem too.

Initially I thought that it might have been relate to a corrupt backup. To eliminate this possibility, I just backed up the phone, then immediately 'Erased all contents and settings' & set up as new.

Made 10 quick calls to voicemail and boom......same issue (Honestly I was happy to find that it was not as a result of a corrupt backup as that would have been a pain to set up from scratch).

It must be software related. I might try the 10 Beta, just to see.......

calabiyau007,

As requested I did the following tests with my iPhone 7 (which does the Lag extremely bad) and my wife iPhone 6s Plus which doesn't do the lag.

I cleared out and closed the camera app on both phones through the multitask screen

I did a hard reset on both devices.

I double check to make sure all apps were closed on the multi task screen a second time.

I opened the camera app on both phones

I made 5 phone calls on both phones waiting at least 10 seconds after the call connected.

I then opened the camera app on both phones

Verdict: My iPhone 7 froze for so long that i almost gave up counting. it was over 15 seconds which feels like eternity.

My wife iPhone 6s Plus opened with in 1 second without any lag

I repeated all the steps above two more times increase the calls from 5, to 10, to 15.

Same results as above.

Second test:

I backed up both phones on iTunes through the computer.

I did a master reset on both devices clearing them completely.

I restored my backup on to my wife iPhone 6s Plus.

I also restored my wife back up on to my iPhone 7.

So now the phones are completely switched. (my wife misses her plus lol)

i repeated all the above tests and experienced the exact opposite.

My wife iPhone 6s plus with my back up froze like crazy with camera lag

My iPhone 7 with my wife back up worked flawlessly .

Hope this helps everyone out. Now i've gotta switch them back before my wife goes crazy with the small iPhone 7!

Thank you for sharing this! Ain't these are good news! That implies that certain settings or part of the backup (or carrier) are causing the lag in this test.

Could you please be so kind and let us know: how exactly have you resetted and restored the iphones? What do you mean by master reset (DFU or delete this iphone...)? I would be happy to try as well (I was thinking already to return my iphone 7).

Interesting also would be to ask you to try with the clean phone, i.e. without any backup. Would you notice any lag after calls. Maybe you could compare the behavior of both phones in their clean states?

Sep 23, 2016 11:24 AM in response to Robber80

Best news ever in this thread!

Your wife backup has some config that keeps the lag away.

Thanks Robber80. Really.

What's next? I'd like to know what is this configuration or app that is different.

Could you please compare all options in settings and tell us any difference? Icloud settings, carrier settings, privacy, whatever.

Your case is incredible valuable. You are the only person who can compare that easily both cases.

We are on your hands!
