iphone 6s camera lag

I’m experiencing an issue with my iPhone 6s where the camera app is sometimes very laggy when starting up. Most of the time things are fine – I open the camera app and instantly see images from the rear camera. However, on occasion I will get either the last photo taken showing or (more often) see really slow updates (like a frame a second) from the camera for 5-6 seconds before it becomes usable. I haven’t seen anything online about others experiencing this issue, so it would be good to know if this is an isolated hardware issue or something others are seeing (and likely to be fixed by a future software update). FWIW I have done a complete restore on the phone via iTunes without the issue being solved.

For me it happens pretty consistently if I don't use the camera for a while, and then open it from the lock screen. For example, the day I went into the Apple store, I purposely did not use the camera at all the night before since I had an appointment in the morning. When I got there, I opened the camera for the first time in about 10 hours in front of the support rep, and the issue occurred.

On the internet, I see a lot of people are experiencing some type of "freezing" right after they unlock your phone using Touch ID.

Touch ID on Iphone 6s or 6s+ is incredibly fast. I think it takes even less than a second.

I suspect the problem lies there. For me, this problem occurs when I normally unlock my phone using touch ID then go to camera straight away.

Or I go to camera from the lock screen.

This is just my guess.

Hopefully Apple will solve this through a firmware or something. If this is a hardware issue, they really messed it up.

I also get exactly issus in my country Macau, I tried to send emails to Apple many times, but they never give any response, I tried to get Chat help, but they just kept saying restoring my iphones, I told them not work, they kep asking **** of a lot of sutpid questions, I told them to report to Apple, but obviouly Apple belittle our problems , Apple products suck, never never never use it anymore .. Apple turn a deaf ear to the problem cos they think there are lot of fans to swoon over iphones even their iphones are fully defective.

pjosborne, how are you getting on with this issue? I'm seeing the same camera lag and other GUI-related atrefacts on a replacement iPhone 6S.

My previous 6S had a different issue, but all transitions, animations, scrolling and so on were buttery smooth - I never saw any camera lag, and I tested the camera extensively in the first few weeks of ownership, on every version of iOS 9 up to 9.1.

The issues are intermittent which makes them difficult to demonstrate, but in general this 6S feels sluggish compared to the previous unit - I see stuttering when scrolling menus, and occasionally a lag opening folders too, something I never saw with the first 6S.

I take it back. The new phone has the same problem. I'm going to wait a while and replace it again before Apple Care runs out. To me it definitely seems like it has something to do with the live photo feature. When the camera lags before opening, I sometimes see a black screen, but I also sometimes see some random freeze frame from some random place on the street I was walking that day.

Besides the obvious creepy factor of the iPhone screen showing an image from a location at which I never even opened the camera app, it seems like the issue has to be related to live photos somehow.

I agree there should be many more complains about this issue. Maybe people will catch on eventually. Or maybe most people just don't think to look on these forums for people with the same problem. We have to do something to make Apple notice this thread.

Here I am in Macau of Asia, like I said above, I found out all iphone 6s have such issue, especially when after the phone calls you are made (5 minutes or above) then you open the camera, you will see a lag screen, sometimes get hanging becomes unusable, sometime with black screen holding 3-5 seconds, so, like a lunatic, since October, I've been reporting to Apple in Asia, including Macau, Hong Kong, Singapore even in the US, all of 'em just told me "never ever received such bug report", I told 'em here is the link abt the issue ppl has been complaining abt, but they told me they are not allowed to see other websites, I requested 'em to report to technical team, they told me this was not their responsibility and not guarantee any reply, I requested 'em to put me through to their superior team or any contact point of software engineer, they told me there was no such policy for Apple to do so, I requested 'em to discuss with their boss and get back to me, they told me they are not allowed to make any outbound calls, I requested a refund, they told me 14 days refund is over for my case, they suggested me goin' to authorized local services provider for overhaul or replacement, I told 'em all iphone 6s exist such bug, they insisted me to service provider, I told 'em the service provider wont accept any walk-in clients, no phone calls, only 24/7 unavailable on-line booking, they told me they can not contact the service provide, Ok, if i really go to make a replacement, I need to lay down my iphone for sending back to Singapore and with no phone for at least 1 week, and then pick up a brand new iphone 6s which is with the same bug as I am expectin, what is the point? They told me that this is the policy for customers to lay down their phones for sending back to Singapore for investigation even though they already knew that there is a faulty problem with the phone,

The most horrible experience with this bug you might also come across is ......there is an expected image of the view in your last time camera open will pop up on the screen and keep hanging 2-3 seconds, which means every time when you wanna take a shot to catch a wonderful moment with your family, friends, coworkers..... you must be CAREFUL and take precautions about what image will pop up on your iphone's screen. this makes me so embarrassin' few times

Hey Tim! I love you very much and thanks to your "supporting" team givin' me a such a great experience I 'v never had in my life. you care about your product to launch on schedule, but never about the quality, you care about how fancy your desire goes, but never about the QC, SUUUCKS! Ooops ! I mean suck it up. One thing for sure, Apple will be a next has-been

Hi flyingL123, Dont hold your breath! Apple does NOT care about users' concerns unless we are some mass media reporters, I've deeply experienced that Apple's policy and practice deal with end users, when products are sold, business is done and over as well as liability, they just care about the some figures to flaunt to public in WWDC.
