How do I check for Malware or virus on my OSX 10.6.8?

My Roku provider said their program does not connect to the internet because my computer is infected with some kind of malware or virus based on their test of my system. How can I remove the problem?

I received this after setting up Roku:

Dear Roku customer,

Manage your PIN: Your Roku Channel Store PIN lets you control who can add and buy channels using your Roku account.
Update your payment information: Roku accepts credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, or American Express) or PayPal.
We are committed to protecting the information you share with us. With the PIN code purchase authorization system, you will never be charged for purchases you have not authorized.

That certainly does indicate that you talked to the real Roku. The links in that message do go to official Roku sites. If these are the links you used to try to get help, then the failure is entirely on Roku, and from your description, it sounds like they pretty much tried to scam you. I've found another similar topic here:

Virus

This isn't much data to go on, but it's concerning. If it were me, I'd return the Roku box for a refund and never come anywhere near that company again. I can't say whether that's fully warranted or not, or if the company overall is good but they just have a few really awful tech support people, but your experience would leave me not feeling able to trust them.

Wow, sorry about that experience with their tech support. I personally have a Roku that I love but have never needed to contact support. I hope that's atypical for them because the company seems to produce good products with quite a bit of polish. Sounds like they may have outsourced their support unfortunately.

In your last post, you said "I have Comcast XFinity and connect through Linksys."

This gives you some things to try. First, is there a reason that you are using a Linksys router behind the XFinity router that Comcast provided? If you are very network savvy, and understand how to eliminate a double NAT configuration with these devices, then that's fine. If however, you have no idea what I mean by double NAT, then I would recommend actually removing the Linksys router from your home network altogether and instead using the WiFi provided by your Comcast provided Xfinity router for connecting all of your household devices to the Internet.

Your Xfinity router likely has a WiFi network name and passphrase on a label on the device. On your Roku, try going to the WiFi network settings and looking for the Xfinity network name in the lsit of available networks. If there, join that network using the passphrase listed on the Xfinity router. If you are able to join that network, then see if the Roku works. If it does, then you should likely also join your Mac and any other devices directly to the same Xfinity WiFi network and then power off and disconnect the Linksys from your home network.
