Preview auto crop my pdf

After upgrading to El Capitan, one of my pdf got auto-cropped (every pages) by preview for no reason after I looked for a word using the 'search' tool.

This has happened twice and I have to revert it back to its earliest version (meaning I've lost all my edits on the pdf).

Indeed need help on to solve this problem. Thank you.

I also have the same problem, and likewise avoid saving the file. Originally, I suspected it might be a problem with reading on a tablet and handing off to my Mac via Dropbox. Upon further testing (and now reading each of your results), it's the same problem for all of us and I don't think it's my tablet or Dropbox-related workflow. I've noticed it only happens to certain documents—maybe A4 rather than US Letter? I haven't confirmed this theory, but it seems to primarily affect research PDFs downloaded from UK sources (i.e. BMJ journals, Lancet, etc.). Can any of you discount this theory?

P.S. I'm a graduate student and likewise attempting to use Preview for markup during my research! Solidarity, my friend.

Yep, I have this problem mainly with ScienceDirect journals, and I guess your description applies...

I found a workaround, but it is annoying mainly because you need to know in advance if it is going to be cropped, if you know it, then open the PDF with Preview and export it as PDF. That should allow you to mark it and save it properly.

And yes, exact same situation here 🙂
