iPhoto Update on El Capitan.

Hi,

I just updated to El Capitan and iPhoto keeps trying to update in App Store and ends up saying "This item is temporary unavailable". Good. No Problem. Am very happy and comfortable with the new "Photos App". This is my question. I WANT TO REMOVE THE IPHOTO APP OR NOTIFICATION FROM THE APP STORE OR UPDATE LIST FOR EVER.

Thanks and any answer for me?

Move any copy of iPhoto you are still having installed to a backup drive. Delete the installed iPhoto from the Applications folder. Restart the mac. You will see the update alert as long as Spotlight is showing iPhoto as installed on your Mac.

Thanks guys.

I currently have iphoto 9.5.1.

I currently have imovie 10.0.5.

I would like to keep for now the older versions of both iphoto and imovie (I am not ready to make jump to the latest photos and imovie for now for a variety of reasons).

I know this is not an ilife question, but is there a way to update my mavericks to el capitan and not sierra? - app store has only sierra as an option (I heard you can't run iphoto in sierra (?true) and since my mac is 2013, sierra may be too complicated for it).

Under purchases tab I see both imovie and iphoto.

Thank you again.

Sorry, one important question I forgot to ask. If I upgrade to El Capitain... will iphoto update to the latest version that is compatible (in this case it sounds like 9.6.1)... or will iphoto not be on the computer and I would have to go to app store to re-download iphoto?

What happens to my libraries of iphoto if infact El Capitain doesn't load iphoto (or latest version) and I would need to obtain from app store? I'm assuming iphoto libraries would not be touched.

Thanks again.

After the upgrade to El Capitan the iPhoto icon will be removed from the Dock and you will see iPhoto still in the Applications folder, but crossed out. Your iPhoto Library will remain untouched.

You have iPhoto in your Purchases history. If you upgrade to El Capitan, you can update iPhoto to version 9.6.1 by reinstalling iPhoto after El Capitan or Sierra has been installed. After the system upgrade move the iPhoto.app to the Trash, then open the Purchased tab of the App Store. You will now see "Install" instead of "Open" to the right of iPhoto. Click "Install".

I doubt you can upgrade to El Capitan now that Sierra is the current system. The App Store will only offer you the most recent system. At least your will have to ask the App Store support for help.

Thanks!

I called apple. They directed to me to this page: Upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

They said click on first bullet to upgrade to EC:

If your Mac doesn't support Sierra, or you're using Snow Leopard and would like to upgrade to Sierra, you can get El Capitan from the App Store.

What do you think?

Thanks.

p.s. What would happen if someone didn't have iphoto in their purchase history? are they SOL?

They will have to talk Apple Support into providing a redeem code for iPhoto 9.6.1. Some users succeeded.

The big problem is that Apple stopped the development of iPhoto, it is no longer well supported and no longer sold by Apple. You can only reinstall versions you already own, but the updates tab of the App Store is no longer working for iPhoto, and people who own only a n Life installer version of iPhoto '11 and missed the possibility to convert it to an AppStore version on Mavericks are now out of luck.
