Logging Onto Apple Support Communities NOT SECURE?

Hi Guys,

I've just noticed, that while I was trying to log onto Apple Support Communities, the screen which asked for my Apple ID was being reported at "Not Secure" by my browser (Opera 32.0, on Windows 7/64).

Prior to logging on - and now that I am logged on - I get the "Apple Inc,[US]" confirmation on the URL screen, showing everything is encrypted.

But it seems to me to be a massive security issue that I had to expose my Apple ID in order to get here.

Please can someone either explain why this login is unencrypted - or reassure me it is secured in some other way.

Thanks.

Brian

Of course having directly linked to the unsecured images in my earlier post this page (but not the preceding one in the thread) should now show as insecure. Again the risk is notional.

The images in question are already available at a secure location as they appear at the bottom of every page on ASC. The secure locations are: https://ssl.apple.com/global/nav/images/breadcrumb_bg.png and https://ssl.apple.com/global/nav/images/breadcrumb_sep.png so the task could be as simple as editing two lines in https://ssl.apple.com/global/styles/base.css. Looking at the CSS file there are other non secure references that might get invoked in different circumstances, but again not hard to fix.

Indeed. Just for fun I can fix it locally with a Stylish stylesheet for the domain idmsa.apple.com

#globalfooter #breadcrumbs { background: url(https://ssl.apple.com/global/nav/images/breadcrumb_bg.png) no-repeat !important; }

#globalfooter #breadcrumbs span { background: url(https://ssl.apple.com/global/nav/images/breadcrumb_sep.png) no-repeat !important; }

A secure connection!

I already have my main AppleID and it’s working fine across my Mac and iDevices.

I’m concerned about messing this up, when in fact it’s working great.

If I set up a second AppleID using the link you posted:

Should I use the same Email address as my first AppleID ?

Can I use this Profile “darasc” and update the profile details using the new 2nd ID, or will I have a separate new profile on these boards ?

If I’m starting over with the new 2nd ID Profile on these boards, how do I remove the original “darasc” details ?

Thanks!

Nope. You cannot. Your email address is a unique identifying credential to "access" an Apple ID

Nope. NEW - modify it by 1 character is sufficient. dar_asc, darasc1 - or something new but related like darasc_nue, etc.

Each Apple ID is unique - in reality, it is a "number* " that has a "name" assigned to the database record. ASC, device 'association', Support & the Stores have separate databases for the content they 'contain' - ASC = every post, preference, Bio info, Profile Pics, etc. - the SupportProfile = (what is obvious when you look at it) - Stores = your purchase history [there are likely many more details than one could cite briefly her about each]

basically, ASC is a separate entity than all others Apple.

You don't. Just stop using it for ASC participation and continue with it in all other activity.

*if you hilite(drag across) your name " darasc " and RightClick > choose "View Selection Source" you will see all the details of you ASC related "behind the curtain" parameters
