iPhones 6S Plus Earpiece Crackling When on Call

What do you preciseert mean with 'call quality'? Distortion, crackling, not clear enough, ...?

Many thanks for your quick reply. "Not Clear" is definately the best description. Even with my headphones, so that is not earspeaker-related. My 5S was much clearer.

The problem also exists on the iphone 6. started with the release of IOS 8.3

Go to settings, general, accessibility, call audio routing and make sure it is set to automatic.

Next go to settings, cellular and turn off LTE. Then restart phone and test.

Unfortunately that makes no difference at all.

Same here.

Problem with my iphone 6s is purely mechanical, not software related.

I have an Iphone 6s and the same Problem.

I recently changed it in cause of a cloudy screen, the screen is now better (still not perfect)

but the sound issue during phoning persists.

Is there a solution until now?

I have found the reason at least for my problem.

It ist the camera module.

You can hear the same noise, as it appears during a phone call, if you shake your phone near your ear.

It seams, that the autofocus is very loosely mounted and during a call it oscillates on a deep resonance frequency.

Can anyone confirm this?

And this was also confirmed by Genius in Apple store. According to them, this is normal ...

The cracking earpiece has nothing to do with the camera. Especially as the crackling noise also occurs through the headphones.

It's a software related issue which exits also on the iPhone 6 since iOS 8.3 was released. It disappears when switiching on the "hearing aid mode" in the menu. Anyway, this is not an adequate solution to resolve the problem

Sorry, but then we discuss two different Problems.

My Problem is related only to the earpiece and the "surrp surrp" comes definitely from the camera.

But Frederic, could you try to shake your phone and listen, if it makes any sound/noise?

And don't you hear the same noise during a phone call?

We are most likely speaking about two different things.

We do know that you can hear the camera's autofocus when shaking the phone.

As far as i know this is normal as the autofocus is a "movable" part of the camera.

But we are talking about a different (crackling) sound while making phone calls's. This issue exists since IOS 8.3 and is also there while making calls using the earplugs. The issue is not there when you record a voice memo and play this via the earspeaker, so its most likely software-related.

Ok, no I checked this in depth.

1. No issues with my 6s and a headset

2. No issues in any way with the iPhone 6 from a friend

3. I hear the fibrations only on my and two other iPhone 6s during a call with the built in speaker.

But you are right, there is no Problem with the voice recorder.

I think, the voice recorder filters deep frequencies and generates no resonance with the camera module, but I am not sure, if that is the reason.

to answer your question, the camera of my iPhone is not vibrating. I can shake my iPhone and I can't hear any noise from the camera. But I am aware of this problem. I have had at least 10 different iPhones 6 and some of them had a vibrating camera and some of them didn't. Looks to me like Apple is using two different types of camera modules.
