El Capitan Frozen After Sleep

I have an early 2015 Macbook Pro that I recently upgraded to El Capitan. It wakes from sleep fine when it has been closed for a short amount of time, but if it is in sleep, say overnight, when it wakes, the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive. This leads me to having to restart my computer daily now. Does anyone know any fixes for this? Thank you.

When I had a normal HD this did not happen. Then I "upgraded" to a Fusion drive...I started having this problem. So I upgraded to a Flash HD and this does not happen anymore. Maybe I am lucky but I went through two Fusion drives and they both had the same problem. My Flash HD will wake up by pressing Enter after two days of sleeping with no problems.

Not sure if this is helpful, but thought I would put it out there.

Eric Root,

Your advice above on Aug 23rd to dump the CACHE and COOKIES folders turned out not only to be helpful but just excellent for this freeze on wake issue.

I also reconfigured my Time Machine back up disk to accept way more space and reset the hibernation values back to what they should be.

All this with the result that (1) my Mac starts much smoother and (2) I've had no more freeze on wake since 3 days.

Thanks again !

Thank you for this information. This worked for me. I run Parallels and Windows 10 on my 2013 iMac.; I had Time Machine on but only plugged in the external drive occasionally to back up as a 2nd backup (I heard that external drives that backup can also get infected so it's not a good idea to have the external backup driver plugged in all the time). After reading your post, I turned TM off and have not had this very annoying issue anymore. My theory is that the computer was waking up to backup on TM but not finding an external drive, then froze. Seemed to only happen when I had Windows running though.

Oct 17, 2016 11:13 PM in response to zcolbster

The same thing started happening to me also.

I think it is caused by the latest service pack of OSX. I also have major problems with the new Safari v.10.0. HTTPS sites just don't want to load (hangs in the middle).

I am however able to use an external keyboard and mouse to login and use the machine.

I also use Fusion. Will check if closing down Fusion before sleep has any effect.

I suspect that some peripheral driver gets corrupt during hibernate. When keyboard and trackpad stop working also Bluetooth and Camera are non-existant. After a restart all peripherials work.

Maybe that will help anyone.

You don't have to kill the machine, just connect external keyboard and mouse.
