El Capitan Frozen After Sleep

I have an early 2015 Macbook Pro that I recently upgraded to El Capitan. It wakes from sleep fine when it has been closed for a short amount of time, but if it is in sleep, say overnight, when it wakes, the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive. This leads me to having to restart my computer daily now. Does anyone know any fixes for this? Thank you.

Ok my problem should be different, although the symptoms are the same. I clean installed OS X and with nothing installed, it still freezes randomly when waking up from sleep. It is still very long before it wakes up (since hard reboots often do not work), and the system information tool shows no SPI peripherals where my internal keyboard and trackpad should be located...

Could such a thing be a hardware problem ?! The mac is almost new...

Yep.


As I will only be able to ask for a repair in January, I continued to do some tests.


I tried to boot under Ubuntu Linux on a USB key... and IT WORKS perfectly well, the keyboard and trackpad are fully functional.


So I now doubt again it is a hardware issue.


Now for the details :


It is however quite strange since I had to install rEFInd to boot on the USB key (hopefully, booting with CMD-R works from a USB keyboard, providing a terminal), and the rEFInd menu does not see the keyboard. The recovery does not see the keyboard and trackpad either. I thought that the keyboard could work, since rEFInd appears at the early stages of the boot process, indeed before starting the system. But nope.


However, as soon as linux is booted, the keyboard and trackpad both work again. Rebooting under OS X and the keyboard and trackpad are again locked...


Any idea ?

I have a 2012 Macbook Air. Ever since I upgraded to El Capitan I've had this problem. I thought the subsequent updates would eventually solve this problem, but they have not. It's driving me crazy.


A couple things: First, i do not have Fusion installed, and never had it. Secondly, I too would close the lid, wait a few seconds and try again, thinking that was the solution to unfreeze it. However, what I've discovered (for mine at least) is that I just need to let it sit for about 5–10 seconds before it unfreezes. That is, I realized it had nothing to do with closing my lid. I just open the lid and just try pushing a key every few seconds (for my password) until I see it's not longer frozen.


I did just delete the only saved Bluetooth device (a bluetooth speaker) that I haven't used in months and months. We'll see if that does anything at all.



On my 2010 Mac Mini, I haven't had a single problem. I don't have a password set on that machine, but I've never noticed it freezing after waking from sleep.

count me among the impacted..... I'm not running VM but a very clean machine. Today, the main OS is locked completely and will not wake at all. HOWEVER, when I reboot into recovery, that trackpad jumps to life.


Been very disappointed with Apple Care on this. I did a clean install and that solved the issue for a day. Seems odd to think this ia a hardware issue - why would it come up in recovery, why wouldn't it fail while I'm working, why wouldn't is it limited to sleep. WHY doesn't my rep respond to my ticket, or the three notes I've sent in with the additional data.


And no sooner than I type this up.... magically, after fighting this for the past 41 minutes.... my trackpad is awake.



14 minutes later, PRAM Reset and sleep image removed....we're locked in the top left corner again.


Come on Apple.

I'm having the same issues but on my 2012 iMac. I don't use VMWare Fusion at all.


I have some apps which just freeze in the middle of working on them- adobe apps mainly but also Aperture, and some games as well. When i say freeze, i mean that the mouse and keyboard (wired and wireless) stop working. In the case of the game- all action stops but music still plays in background.


I also can't shut down or restart my mac. All apps quit except the dock which needs to be force quit, but then the screen goes black with the sprocket spinning. Ive left it for an hour with it still spinning. the only way is to hard reset with power button.

I am on os 10.11.2. all apps are updated.

I have a second monitor attached via thunderbolt. I have numerous external drives attached as well for storage. Disk repair gives them all a clean bill of health.

This is so frustrating!

I've been having exactly the same problem. All started on day 1 of El Cap.


Early 2015 MBP 13", no VMware, little 3rd party software. PRAM, SMC and even a re-install of ElCap have had no effect. shutting down Blutooth also doesn't remedy the problem, nor starting in safe mode.


My feeling is this is an OS bug which needs fixing and Apple Support seem to be in denial about.


Interestingly, there is a history of this problem in 2008 about the then OS. One fix from those forums which seems to work is to close the lid for exactly a minute and re-open; this seems to unfreeze it. Have been trying this this afternoon and it has been working.


Overall, massively disappointed with Apple as a recent PC convert and initial MBP lover. Apple Care seem to think patronising empathy and a lack of any real solution is enough. It isn't. Stop telling me how much 'you understand how frustrating the problem must be for me' and get on with fixing it. You can start by replying to this thread.

Yeah. I feel your frustration. But since I did a clean install and downgraded virtual box to an older version I have not encountered the problem. However the new issue I have is that my USB mouse (yes I came from a two button mouse pc) now occasionally will not track and I have to move it around a bit.


i agree. The worst part about these forums is that I have yet to see an Apple tech support person in this thread. Ive been on Microsofts forums and they have moderators from the company stay on top of things offering suggestions fixes links etc.

If anyone in this litany is a member of the Apple Mac developer program, you can open up a case against this serious bug such that it is affecting your product. I've don this on another issue and got back to 2nd level support in Sacramento, California (not everything is supported in Cupertino) who helped me solve the issue/bug/problem (whatever euphemism you choose to use).


I may get around to it as I am registered *** both a Mac and iOS developer; I just haven't had the time of late and since 10.11.2 it's only happened to me on my Mac Pro 3 times and never yet on my MacBook Pro (which BTW I do not run any VM software on my MacBook Pro).
