imessage not working reliably after ios 9.0.2 update.

After the iOS 9.0.2 update, I am not reliably receiving or sending text messages. This occurs on group and single person text messages. It occurs with others that have iphones and other phones. It seems to be worst on one group text which contains a mix of iphones and non-iphones. Some messages that I send are not received. Some messages that are sent to me are not received.

There are no blocks set for Messaging. I have reset my network with the help of Apple's help line. I have restarted my phone. I have good WiFi and Cellular connections. I am on AT&T's network.

The problem persists.

Any solutions?

Thanks.

This seems to be a gliche in iOS9 that goes hand in hand with the error message that iMessage is waiting for activation. I have no cell service at work and MUST rely on iMessage to be reached in the event of an emergency or schedule issues with family. In the past few weeks I have had daily issues with my phone switching to text instead of iMessage and have had to repeatedly fix it using the "Airport Mode Method" described here:

http://www.ios9cydia.com/fix-ios-9-imessage-waiting-for-activation-error-on-ipho ne-6.html

This has worked every time for me. It's been very frustrating to have to keep doing this, but what else can we do until they get out another update with a fix other than restore the phone to iOS8! I'm not even sure that is possible though since I didn't actually update to 9, the phone did it itself when my daughter updated hers and then connected it to my laptop!

So FAR, mine has been resolved. I'm using an iPhone 6+, Verizon, with iOS 9.0.2. My 2 test users are 8.3 and 8.4.1. I am texting their number and not their email address. Everything was working perfect after toggling every Message setting, until I got a text from a non-apple user. Then back to green.....EXCEPT my iOS 9.0.2 friends. I'm still able to iMessage them.

APPLE FIX THIS PLEASE or PUT OUT AN iOS 8.5 ROLLBACK....until you get it resolved.

Thanks,

-CB

I'm glad that I'm not the only one this is happening to! I upgraded to a iPhone 6S last Saturday and updated to ios 9.0.2 on the same day. I have the issue where messages are saying they're sent as iMessage, but never say 'Delivered' and then change to sent as text. And it only seems to happen with the person I message most too. The other issue is when a message comes through, the contacts name doesn't show on the messege notification, it's only their number. It's very annoying!

iPhone 6, Sprint network, upgraded to 9.0.2 a few days ago, and have been having sporadic issues where the iMessages would go through as texts, but I chalked it up to the other person's network. Today, however, it started happening with everyone. After resetting the network, resetting EVERYTHING, doing the whole airplane mode thing, toggling iMessage on and off, signing out of Apple ID in messages, etc. Basically, every "tip" I could find online, I found one person who said that their iMessages went through fine to the others who had upgraded to 9.0.2, but was being weird with anyone who hadn't upgraded.

This has been consistent for me. Everyone I asked who has upgraded, the iMessage works fine.

For everyone else, it either sends as an iMessage at first, without saying "delivered" and then later when I open the thread, it has changed to say "sent as a text message," or it's just sent as a text message to begin with. The weird part is, the person on the receiving end says it comes through to them as an iMessage. even showed screen shots to each other. In a few cases, I've even had it say "delivered" but when I re-opened the message thread, it had changed to "sent as a text."

The only people I have success sending iMessages to reliably are those who have upgraded to 9.0.2.

This is really annoying and makes me concerned that my messages might not always be going through, or that I'm not receiving messages in timely matter, or even at all.

I haven't been thrilled with some of the iOS 9 changes, but this takes the cake.

I agree that there should be a another fix or, even more preferable, a rollback until they can fully fix the iMessage issues.

I am having the same exact issue. I called Apple and he only made my problem worse !!! he told me to turn off my Imessages and turn off the phone, i did that and now my Imessages wont turn back on. So upset and i really am over Iphone. You pay all this money for a phone (Iphone 6S) and it doesn't even work properly!!!

Mine is doing something similar. I almost factory reset my phone. All day it's been sending "imessages" but they would not say delivered. Then after a few minutes it would send as a green text message. I have only noticed my texts only do this to people who do not have the ios9 update on their phone. I have texted people knowing they have ios9 and it delivers and works no problem. When I text people still on ios8 it does the weird non sending then sending as a text message thing. I think it's just a software issue between ios8 and ios9. Really annoying and I hope it gets fixed soon.

I'm having the same problem. It will send as a iMessage. Everything looks normal and than about 5-10 minutes later it turns green and says it was sent as a text. I've tried to reboot the phone, factory reset it, and pour oil on it. You know to lube the messages up for delivery.

I'm on AT&T so that's more than likely the issue.

Started when I downloaded 9.0.1 and then I did 9.0.2 because it was being very pushy about it and I thought it would resolve the issue. It did not.

Seems there are a variety of issues with iOS 9.0.2. I am having the same issue you are, while some are having issues with it switching between SMS and iMessage. Some of my messages never go through to other iPhone users, as well as in a recent case it took me 12 hours to receive an iMessage sent from a friend (seems to happen everyday now), but other times it works perfectly fine. Sometimes the queue'd iMessages pop up mid conversation with a time stamp for 5+ hours ago. It's very annoying and it is making it impossible to hold a conversation with anybody with an iPhone. Hopefully they get that fix to us ASAP, or else I will be making the switch to a Samsung S6 this weekend, with no regrets.

Our whole company experiencing this issue. Can't send texts, very unreliable. wont end images we are getting "failed to send", texts are being sent as text messages, non imessages. Most times the send is failing. The biggest feature of the iPhone that we use, has stopped working all together. This has been the worst update ever, what's worse, we can't go back to ios8. We are trying to get our head office to find alternative phones now, this iOS update is the same nightmare as the ios8 release. Apple has been unresponsive and very slow in letting know what's going on, very disappointing. What once was their greatest strength is now their greatest liability. We are all on iOS 9.02, iPhone 5 and 6
