wireless Apple keyboard stalls requires restart

Since update, the keyboard/typing occasionally stalls and shows me alternate letter options, and there is a kind of fluttering key sound, like someone is pressing my keys. The only fix is to restart. Happened in Preview and in Firefox and in LibreOffice. Can't figure out a cause, but it works for a day, then starts up again. I restart because I fear a kernel panic (paranoid).

I have exactly this same problem. Seems to only happen sometimes after iMac (2015 5K) has been asleep.. comes back and I can enter password OK and everything looks normal until you start typing. Never had a problem with Yosemite - only El Capitan.

I then experience

  • excessive keyboard lag where keypresses dont appear for ages, if at all
  • lots of 'binging' - as if you've just held lots of keys down

ALready been onto apple support once - not much use 😟

I tried killing off all apps and extensions - no change. Disconnecting the keyboard via bluetooth doesnt help either.

Only a reboot fixes it. I am running AVG anti-virus so I'll try to disable that and see if it makes a difference

I agree that this issue still persists in OS X 10.11.4. I have probably submitted fifty or so reports to Apple through Feedback Assistant in the last few months. They have contacted me through Feedback Assistant twice and asked for more information. I have submitted the information they asked for, but so far no solution. This issue only affects my late 2014 27" 5K Retina iMac. I have a mid 2011 iMac that has not been effected by this issue. I am just going to keep submitting reports, hoping this will get resolved. I did not have this issue before OS X 10.11. So far turning the keyboard off then back on again works every time, but only until the next wake from sleep via the Apple Wireless Keyboard. Waking with the Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad still seems to work good at avoiding the problem, at least for me. Console messages seem to suggest that Bluetooth is not making a proper connection to the Apple Wireless Keyboard when this issue happens.

Most posters on this forum are saying that this is only a problem with El Capitan but I've had it for over a year and I'm currently running Yosemite 10.10.5 on a Mid 2012 Mac. So it may have been in previous major versions of OSX but is now being seen by more users.

I have tried just about everything to solve it with not much luck. I don't have the "preventing the computer from sleeping automatically when display is off" option (or at least I'm not seeing it) in Yosemite. I'm going to try turning off the Magic Trackpad and just use a mouse for a while as suggested by some people here and see if I get any luck. If that doesn't work I'll set my MacBook to never sleep, even when on battery. But that might cause other issues when the computer runs out of battery overnight.

Issue continues in betas of 10.11.6. Really hoping that macOS 12 will fix this. Giving up that this will be fixed in El Capitan.

Out of curiousity is everyone using this have the older wireless keyboard/mouse/trackpad? If I was sure the new peripherals solved the problem i might upgrade (as having rechargable batteries is nice), but I don't want to waste money if the same issue will persist fter investing more money.
