El Capitan - App store and iTunes won't let me sign in

So i updated to el capitan, but when i tried to sign in to apple music from iTunes the login sheet accepts my login details but the wheels keep spinning and the login sheet never goes away. My CPU usage from iTunes shoots up to 120+%.

Same for the app store, the login window never goes away. Now i can't update any of my apps, nor re-download el capitan to perform a clean install.

HELP!!!

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

Hey guys i found a temporary solution.

Downgrade iTunes. Only downside, you probably can't use iOS 9.

1. Find a way to download iTunes 12.2 (12.3 comes with el capitan)

2. Delete old iTunes from computer.

3. Install iTunes 12.2

if you have time machine perhaps a restore would work.

Wish i knew how to do same for the app store app.

Hope this helps someone at least get access to their apple music account while apple prepares a fix.

I can confirm the missing serial number is the reason that is stopping me being able to log into iTunes and Mac App store.

Applecare contacted my local Apple service company who have generously agreed not to charge me for flashing my serial number onto my logic board. Cheers Apple this is much appreciated.

I found this on the developer site,

Your issue can arise from any of the following:

  • The Mac App Store relies on having the correct Date and Time settings to authenticate its connection.
  • The system serial number is used for authentication purposes. If the serial number is not displayed in About This Mac, the Mac App Store can't authenticate its connection.
  • Invalid or incorrect Network Preferences: Creating a new Network Location can assist in isolating potential Network Preference issues.
  • Invalid or incorrect Certificates: Use the following steps to reset the cache of accepted certificates:
  • Open the Finder.
  • Choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
  • Type /var/db/crls/ in the Go window.
  • Delete crlcache.db and ocspcache.db by dragging these files to the Trash.
  • Enter an administrator password if you are prompted.
  • Restart the system and test for the issue.
  • The Keychain holds passwords and certificates used to create authenticated connections from apps such as Mac App Store.

These issues and how to check if they're the problem are explained by Apple here:

It seems that something else is going on here that isn't related to the serial number. My serial number presents itself when I click on "About This Mac" yet I am still having this issue. I have tried all of the solutions presented by Colourist, and there has been no improvement of my situation.

At the moment, I am unable to sign in to any apple application (messages, App Store, iTunes, iCloud, Etc.) on my Mac. I can sign into each application just fine on my iPad. I do not get any error, I just get a "loading" wheel forever which means I have to force close the app in order to close it. If I deliberately put an incorrect password in, I get an error right away stating that the password is incorrect. Therefore, the app is talking to Apple, and my computer is running a check. For some reason, my request for sign-in is not being authenticated, even though my date and time settings are correct, i've deleted all caches mentioned above, I have a serial number showing, and I have properly authenticated on this computer prior to El Capitan.

I have seen that multiple people have had this issue, but it doesn't appear to be widespread enough to make front page when googling this issue. There have been no actual solutions presented.

Does anyone else have any other ideas? It seems like it's something wrong on Apples end... I really wish they would take a look at this.....

I don't have AppleCare, but I am contemplating calling them anyway because this doesn't appear to be an issue with anything I have done to this computer. Perhaps if enough of us call AppleCare requesting a solution they'll get the idea that something is wrong.

But for now, no fix in sight, and no idea what the actual issue is...

I have the same problem and having spent quite some tome researching the problem I think it is because the installation of El Capitan has somehow corrupted the serial no. on my Mac - when I check on About this Mac it says serial no. unavailable. whereas on my MacBoork Pro which I also upgraded I dont have the Apple ID login problem and the serial no. is shown

If you go to ROGERSM.NET there is a solution, I have yet to try it but others on the Apple Support Community seem to have done it, and solved the problem there is risk so you need to very carefully enter the serial no of your Mac

    I have the same issue.

My S/N is shown in "About this Mac". I can't login to iTunes or iCloud. It is interesting that it knows if I type the wrong PW - it gives me an error. But when I type in the correct PW, the hourglass just keeps spinning.

I check all my certificates and deleted the cache as described above. Nothing seems to be helping. Uggg... I also had issues with Yosemite. It thought this upgrade would be smoother.

Just an FYI of some steps that I tried **but, didn't help***. I still can't login to iTunes or iCloud.

    • Deleted files in /Library/Application Support/iCloud/Accounts
    • Reboot to safe mode
    • login to iCloud
    • Visited appleid.apple.com and reset my password.
    • multiple trys at logging out of iCloud & back in using my new password

    Hi all,

Just to add some weight behind an obvious problem in the hope Apple notice! I too am unable to log into ITunes, ICloud or the App store although I can log into the forum. This has only manifested since I downloaded El Capitan. If unable to log into Appstore how will I be able to get the fix update?? (This point has already been made but just reinforcing it). I have changed my password about five times now during various attempts to rectify problem. I am not experiencing any such issues on my IPad or IPhone.

Just like to add that this is my situation as well, with a mid-2007 iMac. Killing the store processes with activity monitor then wiping store files in ~/Library, /Library, $TMPDIR/C, and $TMPDIR/T don't help.

A direct link to iTunes 12.2.2 is here...

    https://secure-appldnld.apple.com/itunes12/031-31872-20150813-B2459290-41B7-11E5 -A64D-900D11BA098F/iTunes12.2.2.dmg

However it won't install because 12.3 is already installed and I can't delete it because System Integrity Protection, new with El Capitan, doesn't let me.

If anyone wanted to they could disable SIP in recovery mode, delete iTunes 12.3, and install iTunes 12.2, but at this point I'm just going to let Apple come up with a fix.
