itunes 12.3 keeps crashing with windows 10

Okay I don't exactly know what happened... But HELP please!!!!!!


iTunes was working just fine Tuesday morning but after updating my phone to ios9 and allowing for a WiFi sync iTunes will not function right. iTunes opens but then almost immediately it will lock up. If anything else is open on the computer it will also freeze. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times with no luck. I've run system scans and removed anything that shouldn't be. I've restarted my computer after every change, and still no luck. Anyone else had this happen to them? Or something similar with windows 10?

This problem of iTunes crashing is happening to me on my computer when updating to latest update for my iPhone 7plus and iPad Air 2. It’s starting to get annoying to me too. I closed any internet pages I didn’t need and even restarted/ shut down computer and still nothing. I would try restarting and shutting down computer or whatever device you have and go from there. I feel your pain. It’s wierd ITunes worked for a little while then it crashed again over and over. iTunes and Apple please fix this problem please. I hope this helps you.

I too have this problem of iTunes randomly crashing very frequently on Windows 10, which only exhibited when I upgraded from iTunes 12.1 to 12.3. When I go back to 12.1 it all works fine again, but sadly I have iPhone 6S's now and HAVE to have iTunes 12.3 for these to sync. So I really need a fix if anyone has one?


Although of course my login is an administrator user ID, I have also tried running iTunes by right clicking on "Run as Administrator" and the program seems to last slightly longer, but does still crash. The crashes do not happen on any particularly re-producible event.


Anyone able to help please??

Also, on a Windows 10 64bit.

It seems to happen just after finishing the main part of synching.

Maybe just around transfering "diagnostics and usage data"... I'm not sure.

Also, my iPhone 6 (sw: 9.0.2), seems to have Diag. data already in it since more than 20 days ago.

It's not getting deleted, it seems.

Something is failing when or before that part of sync.

It seems to crash with one iPhone, but not with another I have.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.


The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.


Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.


The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to anolder version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.




Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.




If the issue persists and you have a 64-bit system try the for older video cards version which is a 64-bit installer for mostly 32-bit code, similar to all 64-bit versions of iTunes up to 12.1.



If you've tried the above without success then see the method in Install missing components. What component fails to install, and what error message does it give? See this post for steps to produce detailed logs of the installation which may reveal why iTunes won't install. Look for words like failed or error.

Thanks very much to TuringTest2 for the above advice, which I will investigate. Since posting my problem, I have improved my iTunes 12.3 crashing problem a bit. It still crashes fairly randomly but not as often, and so I can usually get a sync or two out of it between crashes. What I did to improve the situation was to uninstall ALL programs from Apple, then delete all apple related directories left in:


C:/users/user_name/AppData

C:/users/user_name/Application Data

C:/Program Files (x86) (and common files)

C:/Program Files (and common files)

C:/ProgramData

THEN reinstall. (Only directories left are My Music / iTunes etc)


Hope Apple can get a new version (iTunes 12.4 maybe) out soon and maybe sort all the many problems people are having with 12.3.


To Apple management - do you still remember your old emphasis on good customer experience???


Any more fix suggestions welcome from anyone...
