Disk Utility Erase button
Installed El Capitan a few days ago. Tonight I'm trying to erase a DVD RW disk, but the Disk Utility screen doesn't activate the Erase button. Now what do I do?

Any luck? I have the same problem.
No answers from anyone, Greentip. Interestingly, when my Seagate drive is plugged in and turned on, the erase button is available. So I could erase my entire 500 GB Seagate drive, but not a measly little 4.7 GB DVD+RW disk. Very, very strange!
Many thanks, maddened. I was also grateful for a response on
How to get disk utility on el capitan to erase?
but
That didn’t come out right. Just to say thanks for getting in touch and sharing the problem. Perhaps Apple have done with such disks.
This is the answer:
Ctrl-click (or right-click) on a mounted CD-RW and choose the option to Erase the rewritable disk.
Thanks again for getting in touch.
Well, it erased...I guess. Took all of about 5 seconds to erase 4.5 GB. I've always used the slower erase, to be absolutely the new files were recorded on a squeeky-clean disk.
Thanks for the info, Greentip. Now I can get back to work!
