That is referring to iTunes on the computer. If you go to Help>About iTunes, what version number does it report? What computer OS are you using?

You will need iTunes 12.1.3 for syncing with iOS 9. Here is a link for the 32-bit version of the new iTunes for XP.
Hi ChrisJ . Thanks for the link. That is the one for 32-bit versions of Vista as on my computer. As an aside, I kept receivng a download error messege stating that the iTunes setup program could't be downloaded, so I changed the download location to the desktop; still same error message, but when I check the list of files on the desktop, this 103MB file was there, and ran smoothly afterward. Now I will connect mt new iPhone 6S-plus and cross my fingers.
My response and the link was for the OP, who had XP as an operating system. There is a 64-bit version as well, it is found in the same area location Apple - Support - Downloads, you just select the 64-bit for Vista that is dated September 16, 2015.
