Finder issue - "arrange by" view keeps changing

I am on OS X 10.9.5. A few days ago, Finder began acting strangely.

My default view in Finder is column view, arranged by "name".

In the finder window, on the left side, under "favorites", I have several commonly visited location shortcuts. For some reason, one of my folders has begun appearing in "arrange by date modified" view, which is useless to me. So, I switch it back. It might even stay that way until I reboot the machine again (which i do once a day).

Why does the view in this one folder keep going back to "date modified" view, even after I select "name"?

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Finder

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.

Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
