App Store update icons grey/missing

For quite some time now, several of the App Store icons for updates are grey and missing. This is happening on both my iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6s. Scrolling through the list and back to the top usually reveals the missing icons. Not a big deal, but irritating since its been happening for months now. I'm not sure if this is an iOS bug or some sort of a server issue on Apple's side...

Anyone else seeing this?

I thought I read somebody comment that Apple said to delete the app and then to reload it from your purchases. I just tried that again on both my iPhone 6s my iPad 3 and that did not fix any of the grey ones. They still came back grey. Yahoo Weather 1.9.0 was what I tried without success.

TV Guide Mobile 5.0.2. failed also on my iPhone when I deleted and reinstalled. But since I didn't update TV GM on my iPad during the "questionable days" and waited, it looks fine on my iPad. So what I am seeing is it any app that I upgraded during these questionable few days don't get colored when I re-install them and if I did not upgrade the app during the questionable days and waited until it seemed all clear then the app looks fine.

Still an issue but worse.

I noticed like many here that the new updates are no longer showing grey. Old updates are still showing grey where they didn't before when you went back into the store. but what I now find worse than grey, is there is no indication that your update is really updating until it is done.

The update circle just stays blank until the update is compete. See below for an example. I'd rather have the grey and some indication my update is actually occurring. 😕

For me, it is sort of halfway there. The icons seem slow to fill from grey, to their normal state. Sometimes I have to scroll up and down and wait for the icons to populate. I have once had to kill the App Store app and restart to get it working.

What is an issue is that sometimes App update download is very slow and sometimes stop when partially loaded as indicated by the rotating indicator and reset to zero.

I'm sure that with auto update set to on, the apps used to start and complete an update without any action by me. Now I seem to have to start them manually. Am I right? Does anyone know what provokes the queued updates to start?

Yes, after a while during which the problem appeared to go away, it returned for me too yesterday, as described by jhalmos. Given the affected icons were once OK, that does suggest that some content management system issue is present here. When the app looks for the current icon for that app it's not initially finding it. Though why scrolling up and down usually corrects this is a mystery, other than it might trigger a refresh.
