Windows 10 Bootcamp Driver Problem

Hello, I just installed Windows 10 by creating a partition with disk utility and then using a USB stick to install windows 10 so I haven't used boot camp to create the partition or to install windows.. Everything seemed fine until windows started, meaning the mouse & keyboard didn't work, I downloaded the drivers from bootcamp and installed them on the windows partition but still nothing is working.

I updated OSX Lion to El Capitan to get bootcamp 6 and get the windows 10 drivers but still, nothing is working. Something I've noticed is that on the windows partition when I click on the info for bootcamp it says Version 5.1 but I'm sure I've downloaded the drivers from Bootcamp 6.

After I downloaded the bootcamp 6 drivers I downgraded back to Lion because El Capitan was too problematic, so I can't even download the drivers again, is there a way to download them directly? Iv'e seen a way with Brigadier on some posts but I don't understand how it works.

Do the drivers from bootcamp work even if I didn't use bootcamp to install windows or create the partition with it?

Please help me!

1. Can you run msinfo32 and find out if your installation is UEFI or BIOS?

2. On a 2012 Mac, UEFI will not work correctly.

3. Check Bootcamp.xml and Product Version when you download BC drivers (option 2 - Download Software only).

4. OSX Lion or ELC have no relationship to BC drivers, they only update the BC Assistant, which is an independent, OSX version-related software.

5. Please try BCA first, before exploring Brigadier.

Sorry but what's msinfo32? When I installed Windows it said EFI Boot or something like that when I clicked "alt" when the iMac got on to choose the USB stick to install windows but I don't know if you mean that.

Windows works perfectly fine, it's just that the keyboard & mouse aren't working, I'm sure I downloaded the wrong drivers.. But now I can't download them anymore because I downgraded back to OSX Lion and I don't have Bootcamp 6.

If you chose EFI Boot, then your installation is UEFI. Your 2012 Mac is a preUEFI Mac, so devices do not get exposed correctly.

Do you currently have Windows 10 and OS X Lion installed?

Can you check if Device Manager has any unknown devices with yellow triangle and exclamation mark or there are entries under Other Devices?

The model identifier: iMac12,1

There is no About, when I click on it there is "Get Info" and it says Version: Boot Camp Assistant 4.0.4 (OS X partition).

When I check bootcamp properties on the windows partition it says Version: 5.0.3.0.

I had to do internet recovery mode to re-install OS X Lion because I had El Capitan, when I had El Capitan I downloaded the drivers to install on the windows partition.

Your iMac 12,1 is a 2011 model. It's model identifier does not allow Windows 10. if you have W10 upgraded/installed , then you will need to use a non-Apple tool to get the drivers

Please see https://github.com/timsutton/brigadier and the following log. -m iMac12,1 will give you what you currently have. Use -m iMac 13,1 and test.

MyName-rmbp:brigadier-master MyName$ ./brigadier -h

Usage: brigadier [options]

Options:

-h, --help show this help message and exit

-m MODEL, --model=MODEL

System model identifier to use (otherwise this

machine's model is used). This can be specified

multiple times to download multiple models in a single

run.

-i, --install After the installer is downloaded, perform the install

automatically. Can be used on Windows only.

-o OUTPUT_DIR, --output-dir=OUTPUT_DIR

Base path where the installer files will be extracted

into a folder named after the product, ie.

'BootCamp-041-1234'. Uses the current directory if

this option is omitted.

-k, --keep-files Keep the files that were downloaded/extracted. Useful

only with the '--install' option on Windows.

-p PRODUCT_ID, --product-id=PRODUCT_ID

Specify an exact product ID to download (ie.

'031-0787'), currently useful only for cases where a

model has multiple BootCamp ESDs available and is not

downloading the desired version according to the post

date.

1. On the right-hand size there is a button 'Download ZIP'. Download the zip file. I moved it to my Documents folder.

2. Unzip the files.
