Steps sync between watch and iPhone

tthere are times when i only have my phone on me but not my watch. The health app tracks steps. Then when I put on my watch later, the steps are not updated from my iPhone health app and the watch shows 0 steps. shouldn't they both always be in sync? Please help. Thank you.

Hi

iPhone-sourced data is not synced to the Workout or Activity apps on your watch. Health and fitness data is stored instead within the Health app on iPhone (the watch is one of many potential data sources), with combined data reflected in the Health app Dashboard. iPhone and Apple Watch are listed as separate Sources (bottom tab) in the Health app. For example:

- In the Health Data tab at Fitness > Steps > Show All Data, some data points may have a phone symbol, whilst most will likely have a watch symbol;

- Within Flights Climbed, only iPhone is shown as a source, as the watch cannot detect this activity.
