homebutton not working, unresponsive screen

Hi, so My ipod gen 5's home button stopped working a while ago. I didn't think much of it as I already used assistive touch and it seemed there was no other possible way to get my ipod's home button to move again. So, just today, my ipod was working fine, I don't know what happened, but I got a notification from an app and when I went to respond to it, my ipod wouldn't let me slide to unlock. The screen wouldn't respond to me at all. I looked up on here and it said I should force restart, well, assistive touch and my home button isn't working so I can't really do that anyway. My warranty ended last year. There are pictures and things that I'd like to keep that I don't have anywhere else as well so buying a new one isn't an option.
