El Capitan - Bluetooth repeatedly disconnects on Mac Mini

after installing El Capitan ( 10.11), the bluetooth keeps disconnecting, then reconnecting.

Sometimes every 30 seconds. Tried to trace any conflicts, but no luck.

Does not matter what bluetooth is connected, it all goes down.

Had to shut down bluetooth, and buy a wireless mouse to replace my Magic Mouse.

is this a known bug?

Well, it's buggy behavior. Occurs on latest Sierra deploy. SMC resets, multiple mice manufacturers, multiple machines experiencing the issue. Hopefully it's a correctable software issue and not a hardware flaw... Looks like this for me, btw, with Bluetooth rapidly toggling back and forth between "Connected" and "Not Connected":

Having the same problem on a MacBook Pro, 3rd party BT mouse (that has worked without issue for months). Problem developed after El Capitan (10.11.3) upgrade. We don't use iCloud, and there are no other BT connections, no USB connections, and our phones are in another room. I just did the SMC reset as well as PRAM, and turned off Handoff (which I suspect doesn't matter for us). Following the discussion for info. Will update if the above steps work for me.

Resetting the NVRAM did not work

Deleting and pairing the devices did not work

I did find a solution but it came in around about way:

The El Capitan patch (10.11.4) crashed my computer. My MacBook Pro would not load past the initial white screen with Apple Logo.

Solution:

I was able to reinstall the OS using the recovery partition. This fixed the bluetooth dropping issue and also since I was connected to my WiFi during for the reinstall, my OS version is 10.11.4.

Have been experiencing my Apple Keyboard and Magic Mouse disconnecting unexpectedly since El Capitan update. When I had Bluetooth disabled on my iPhone, the problem did not occur. Just recently turned on BT for my iPhone, and my Magic Mouse and Apple Keyboard both disconnected as I placed my iPhone close by my MacBook Pro.

I upgraded to El capitan some time back and have been having issue with the bluetooth keyboard and mouse with my mac mini. Initially i thought it was an upgrade issue but later i realised that i upgraded my router the same time. I have a tp link router TD-W8968 V4.

I think my router was creating an issue. As soon as i changed the bandwidth setting from 20/40 mhz to 20 mhz, the issue seems to have resolved. its been two days now. Try this out.

I've been seeing this randomly as well. It will be fine for days and then out of the blue the keyboard and mouse will repeatedly lose connection and then get it back. I was watching my console and filtering for "blued" and would see batches of messages like the following, which directly corresponded to jittery mouse performance or a disconnection.

4/21/16 1:59:05.512 PM blued[82]: Device Connected with address: 00-1f-20-75-be-a8 and classOfDevice 0x000540 and connectionHandle 0x000c

I tried the suggestion of going to System Prefs -> General and turing off Handoff. Immediately, the console messages stopped, my keyboard connected properly, showing this in the log, and I am not seeing any more issues.

4/21/16 1:59:05.519 PM blued[82]: HID Device connected isIncoming = 1, deviceClassMinor = 16, isPaired = 1, isConfigured = 1

Who knows if it will last, but that setting immediately made a difference.

It helped me, but I had to disable iCloud completely on El Capitan, otherwise it could occur, after doing something related to iCloud. And I have problems and had problems, with the mouse too, when I used AppStore on El Capitan. The problem on 10.8.5 still remains, related to the AppStore.

I have been going back to 10.10.5 and 10.9.5 and 10.8.5. This works much better and I have no other additional problems any more. Only the ones I caught using El Capitan.

I have had problems with my 2012 MacMini, as well. When I connect my WD 2TB external drive (USB3), the wireless mouse jumps and is out of control. The Magic Mouse repeatedly loses connection. After disconnecting the external drive, I need to reboot and the problem seems to go away.

Well, well, well. I have discovered that some of our computers do not have sufficient shielding on the Bluetooth and USB3 is interfering with the signal. Makes sense to me.

Has anyone tried this?

I was able to finally fix this issue. This has been bothering me for several months now.

From the console, simply type:

sudo networksetup -removenetworkservice "Bluetooth PAN"

Bluetooth PAN (Personal Area Network) is used for close-quarters connections between a Bluetooth compatible device, like an iPhone, Android, or iPad, and a computer, like a Mac or Windows PC. Thus, removing the Bluetooth PAN interface will remove that functionality from the Mac. This also means that removing Bluetooth PAN will lose the ability to use Instant Hotspot in OS X with an iPhone, which is basically just a quick way to activate internet sharing and the Personal Hotspot feature on an iPhone without doing so on the device itself, so only do this if you’re certain you don’t need to use Instant Hotspot (do note that USB internet sharing and tethering still works fine).

Thanks for your post... I started investigating other devices that I have connected to my MacBook while using my Apple BT Keyboad. At home in my office, I have a variety of devices...wireless mouse(Microsoft, Ergonomic), Seagate USB Drive, two WiFi printers, USB Hub, and numerous devices connected to the hub. The Apple BT Keyboard never disconnects.

OTOH, about two months ago, I decided I wanted to do some work in my car while parked by the ocean so I purchased a wireless mouse at the local Staples Store that had a USB antenna and connected into the USB port on my MacBook laptop.

In short order, while working in the car, I noticed the constant Apple BT Keyboard disconnect-connect sequences and eventually, the Apple BT Keyboard would not pair at all. Very frustrating. Reading through these posts I became curious about the wireless mouse. Bingo, turned it off, disconnected the USB antenna and the Apple BT Keyboard instantly paired and stayed that way with no connect-disconnect issues....

For purposes of being specific, it's a Logitech Wireless Mouse, Product Id: LZ61433, M187. I am surprised in that despite all the FCC approvals etc... that the integration of this device and BT would have such an issue. But, as I've learned while being in technology for 44+ years, things happen.

This issue has been tormenting my Macbook Pro for a couple of years. Finally it seems to have been resolved in OS X 10.11.6 - it has been about a week, and before the update it was connecting and disconnecting several times a day, and even more frequently having spells of increased latency, when keystrokes would take around 200ms to register, which made the whole experience sluggish. Now it still does occasionally disconnect, but reconnects almost instantly, and I no longer experience the intermittent latency.

I had this problem since I don't know when. Usually it has meant that batteries are low, but no after El Fu...Capitan, it has been constantly even with changing batteries to fresh ones. I noticed that there has been a lot of talk about BT devices and I just check from System Preferences-> BT-> what kind of devices were on my BT "radar". I noticed two odd addresses and I removed them from the view and Voilá! No more disconnecting and stuttering moves. Okay, I may have been too eager to write this, since it has worked for few hours now. I'll report back later.
