Apple TV does not accept Apple ID and password

I have read many answers on this community so far however none fix the problem.


We came home from a holiday, Apple TV had been disconnected for 3 weeks. Plugged it back in and this resulted in persistent blinking white light which we fixed by connecting the Apple TV directly to our iMac and resetting it.

Of course we then plugged it bak into our TV and in the setup we set our network information which was accepted no problems.


Then of course to use Home Sharing we had to enter Apple ID and password into Apple TV.

Unfortunately Apple TV continues to advise we have either the ID or password wrong.


Of course this is BS because we checked on the iMac and confirmed it was the same information we were entering.

Since then we have checked to make sure home sharing is switched on the iMac (it is) and reset the Apple TV (twice) and still it will not accept the ID and password.

There is obviously a fault and it would be great if Apple could provide some solid advice for those that have done everything possible (to our knowledge) to fix the problem.


Next step is to throw the **** thing out.


IDEAS PLEASE ?

2 step verification was my problem as well. I have appleTVs. 2 were fine and one had this problem. It was unplugged for some period of time and afterward I was unable to sign on. I turned off the 2 step verification via my iPhone, entered my AppleID on the appleTV, entered my unchanged password and was able to sign on.


Apple has some pretty clunky software.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.


  1. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
  2. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
  3. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
  4. Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
  5. Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

I too , tried all you steps with no success.

Tried all your recommended steps and this did not work.

Was working fine until this week.

Not sure what happened.

Now constantly tells me my id and or password or not correct.

Can log in on all devices except Apple TV

And is it with this new you ID is being used to sign into a new device.

I have the same devices as before.
