How to drag and drop with Magic Trackpad 2?

I just got my new Magic Trackpad 2. I plugged it into my keyboard and turned it on. Worked right away (charging). I changed a few settings in the System Preferences. Everything is working great - fast, smooth. I'm running El Capitan on an iMac Retina 27. The only thing I haven't been able to do is figure out how to SELECT and DRAG an object. When I do any sort of gesture I typical did to drag an object with my older trackpad, the new trackpad simply invoke ForceTouch and opens the file in QuickLook. How do you select to drag a file? I have my old trackpad still paired via bluetooth and it is working side-by-side with the new trackpad 2.

Thanks,

K

Yeah, I saw that I could uncheck "Use Force Touch"... but then what's the purpose of the trackpad 2? With Force Touch enabled, I can't figure out how to drag an object (window, file etc) without invoking FT.

I had 'Tap to Click' enabled in my trackpad settings in System Preferences.

Since it is so easy to 'click' on the new Magic Trackpad 2, I found that when I unchecked 'Tap to Click', that my trackpad no longer seems to get confused as to my intentions when I manually click on something. When I click and drag now, it will drag the item to wherever I wish.

But since the 'Tap to Click' setting has LONG been one of my favorite trackpad options, I re-enabled it.

It seems to be working ok on my system (dragging and dropping).

For those times when it does not work, I will lift my hand far away from the trackpad (after selecting the items that I want to drag) and then come back in and physically click on one of the selected items and drag it to where I intended.

I think the trackpad is so sensitive to touch that sometimes even when your finger is not physically touching it, the trackpad detects it as a click if you have been using it to drag or select/deselect a lot of items.

If not, I think that unchecking 'Tap to Click' in the trackpad settings may help. I haven't touched any trackpad settings in Accessibility at all so am leaving them at their default state.

Mark, thank you, this solved the issue for me. Using my Magic Trackpad 2 I was able to click and drag with the same finger, but what I was used to before was clicking and holding with one finger and moving the file with another one, which wasn't working for me initially. Now I did what you suggested, lick click to select, release finger, and then light click again, and use a second finger to drag. And lo and behold, now when I do what I always used to do on my Air, light click, hold (without releasing), drag with second finger, suddenly works! Frustrating issue, I was worried I'd have to return the Trackpad or get used to the inferior way of drag and drop.
