Boot camp repaired but window crashed after creating new partition

i'm using mac air mid 2011. ( OS X El Capitan version 10.11).

I set up Boot Camp to dual-boot Windows on my MacBook Air. Everything was fine. But until recently after I made another partition. I wasn't aware that this would affect my Windows partition as I thought it was completely different.

When I boot up, there is no option to boot with Windows. But when I boot the Mac and select Startup Disk, it shows Boot Camp is still there and all my files etc are still there.

Eventuall i found a solution in apple support and fixed this problem. But the next problem existing is, i can't access to my window at all. When the boot option i choose window, it will come out with black screen and not running at all. Need help.

You have a non-standard partitions (5 partitions). It can be corrected, but it is fragile and later Software Updates can still cause issues. You will need GPT Fdisk (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/) . The following steps are non-standard and should not be used on standard configurations. You will lose visibility to OSX from Windows.

Rebuild MBR to match the new GPT information thus resetting the Hybrid MBR. Use defaults for other questions (like partition codes). The only values that need modifications are the Boot flags and step 10. Accept all other defaults that Gdisk offers. Please see thesample Q&A as an example. These steps can be repeated if you make a mistake before you get to Step 12, otherwise start from Step 1 for these steps. Step 6 has numbers which are typed with a space between the numbers. Please see the sample Q&A before you execute these steps.

  1. Sudo gdisk /dev/rdisk0
  2. P (Print list of parts)
  3. R (Recover)
  4. O (print current Hybrid MBR)
  5. H (chooses Hybrid)
  6. Partitions numbers to be hybridized: 3 4 5
  7. Y (Good for GRUB question)
  8. N (part 2 boot flag)
  9. N (part 3 boot flag)
  10. Y (part 4 boot flag make NTFS bootable partition)
  11. O (print current Hybrid MBR)
  12. W (Write the new MBR)
  13. Y (Yes! write the new MBR)
  14. Reboot

Here is sample Q&A for this section. Please notice the Press Enter/Return.

Place EFI GPT (0xEE) partition first in MBR (good for GRUB)? (Y/N): Y

Creating entry for GPT partition #3 (MBR partition #2)

Enter an MBR hex code (default AF): Press Enter/Return

Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): N

Creating entry for GPT partition #4 (MBR partition #3)

Enter an MBR hex code (default AB): Press Enter/Return

Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): N

Creating entry for GPT partition #5 (MBR partition #4)

Enter an MBR hex code (default 07): Press Enter/Return

Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): Y

Test 1 - Does Bootcamp Volume show up in Finder?

Test 2 - Can you see files in Bootcamp Volume?

Test 3 - Can you select Bootcamp in System Preferences -> Startup Disk?

Test 4 - If Test 3 is successful, select Bootcamp and Click Restart.

Loner T,

You are a real legend. My window start operating. Beside can i ask u few question other than the fixed problem. Do i need to create a new discussion?

How to increase my memory from OSX to my window? And how to delete partition created earlier which i intend to put on my bootcamp? The partition i created as below:

4: Apple_HFS Untitled 14.9 GB disk0s4

Thanks a lot for ur guide. Im a happy man now

Oct 21, 2015 10:36 AM in response to Loner T

Sorry Loner T. After i convert my partition to free space, things back to square one. Window boot was missing. But i redo the same things earlier which u shared. The window boot option is appearing but when chosen to boot window black screen appear again. So shall i redo back the same things i did which u share earlier? Below is the current report. Apologise for the inconvenience caused

Did you accidentally/intentionally delete Recovery HD as well?

Oct 22, 2015 7:54 AM in response to Loner T

Why it sound so serious than before? Anyhow Back up is done. Basically my laptop don't have anything. Just the basic things. What have i done to my laptop actually?

Can i still save my window without using my Original Cd?

Actually what i did before this is free up the untitled partition space using the utility disk option.

Oct 22, 2015 8:42 AM in response to arthurfyj

The Recovery HD was keeping the Free Space available. Once it was deleted the space from Recovery HD and Free Space, both, got absorbed into Macintosh HD (which is now 100Gb, compared to the original 85 Gb).

1. You should get Recovery HD in place first, by re-installing OSX, which will recreate the Recovery HD without modifying any of your files.

2. Once you have Recovery HD in place, create a Free Space partition, then we can look at options to extend BC/Windows. Another option is to delete Windows using BC Assistant, re-install OSX, and then create a new BC/Windows with the size you want.

Oct 22, 2015 11:00 AM in response to Loner T

How to reinstall my OSX? I tried using the guide from mac help. Restart my Mac and press command & R button. I choose reinstall OSX but the option mentioned unable to install due to my OSX is updated.

Any option is that i reinstall my OSX without deleting my window. The reason is i don't want to delete my window because i didn't kept my original CD. I'm concerning reinstalling will affect i lost my window and need reinstall everything again?

Boot camp repaired but window crashed after creating new partition
