decimal separator in Numbers

Hi -

I am trying to change the decimal separator from a comma to a full stop. I changed the settings under SYSTEM PREFERENCES as per screen grab below:

User uploaded file

This seems to work fine for build in OSX applications, but NUMBERS still insists on using a comma as decimal separator. The only work-around I could find so far was to change my location from South Africa to US. Surely this cannot be the only fix.

I am using:

Macbook PRO 13" 2014 with Retina display

OSX Yosemite

Numbers v3.6

Thanks!

Hi Wayne -

Thank you for the prompt response. To answer your questions;

I initially tried changing the settings while Numbers was open. Switching location seem to have an immediate effect. As switching location to US is not the desired way to do this, I reverted back to my current location (South Africa) and tried setting the decimal separators, under Advance tab, of both Currency and Number to use a full stop. After this is tried relaunching Numbers and even restarted, but the problem persists.

Switching location to US and customising settings under advanced tab seems to work 100%. It then leads me to believe the problem is isolated to combination of Numbers and Africa/European location settings that will not accept full stop as decimal separator.

Calculator i.e. accepts the change form comma to full stop, the problem seems to be only when using Numbers.

Wayne -

Further to my previous msg;

With location set to South Africa and both Number and Currency set to 'full stop' as decimal separator -

1. I started a new Numbers spreadsheet.

2. First set (A1) cell properties to Currency and enter "1"

3 Result is "R1,00" (comma) is diplayed and cell property remains Currency

4. Second cell (A2) properties set to Currency and enter "1.2" (point)

5. Result is "1.2" (point) is displayed and cell property is automatically changed to "Automatic".
