Why Does My iPad Have "Null" Apps?

The screen grab says it all.

I'm sure I need to Restore this iPad, but I can't make a backup.

The last iCloud Backup was in September. I couldn't do a new one ("The last backup could not be completed"), so, following a suggestion here, I deleted the old one.

I can't do an iTunes Backup either. I deleted the old one and the Lockdown file, but every time I try a backup it gets to the very end and says that the iPad disconnected.

I have tried:

  • Hard reboot of the iPad
  • Reboot of the computer
  • Several different known good USB cables.
  • Deleting old backups
  • Deleting the Lockdown file

So, I'm in the position of having to restore the iPad without having a backup.
