iTunes won't open after updating to 12.3.1

Hi I have OSX 10.11.1 running and I updated my iTunes to 12.3.1. Now all I get is the spinning beach ball when i try to start iTunes. I did a force quit and rebooted but the same thing is happening. I have a huge music library so I thought maybe it was doing some kind of update by after a half hour iTunes is still got the spinning beach ball. Any help would be appreciated.

After more than a month of suffering from painful beach ball overload after installing the iTunes 12.3.1.23 update I found this thread and I'm happy to report that, thanks to the advice here, removing iTunes with Apzapper and installing iTunes 12.3.0.44 has restored iTunes to the way it should be, with no ten second delay every time I try to do anything. I am still using OS 10.8.5 due to prohibitive software upgrade costs (F You Adobe) and I thought I would have to either upgrade my OS or my hardware in order to use iTunes again, so this advice saved me lots of time, effort, and maybe lots of money. I hope Apple will fix the problem soon, but I don't know that I will bother to upgrade again.

Thanks, I'm wiser now. Sound Check wasn't enabled in my iTunes Prefs but I have enabled it now. With it enabled, I have played tracks from a couple of albums without any trouble, using 12.3.2. The only problem I have seen with this new version is that sometimes the rotating beachball is still there, e.g. when accessing album art, but only for a few seconds. Nothing that really upsets me.

Just to pick up this thread again. A few days ago I installed the latest version, 12.4 and unfortunately the spinning beachball turned up again for a very long time (as it was with 12.3.1 and 12.3.2). So I had to go back to 12.3 again, which is working without any glitches. I wonder what you are experiencing with 12.4.

Up to 12.3.2 the community was divided. One group was happy again, while the other (me included) still finds it to be buggy.

In my case, using a Mac mini, El Capitan is installed on internal PCIe flash. The music (1,7 TB of m4a data) is stored on an external Thunderbolt HDD.

Hopefully somone of Apple is reading this to comment on it.
