iTunes won't open after updating to 12.3.1

Hi I have OSX 10.11.1 running and I updated my iTunes to 12.3.1. Now all I get is the spinning beach ball when i try to start iTunes. I did a force quit and rebooted but the same thing is happening. I have a huge music library so I thought maybe it was doing some kind of update by after a half hour iTunes is still got the spinning beach ball. Any help would be appreciated.

Russell, I've been following these discussions - as someone who hasn't upgraded to the latest itunes or ElCapitan, I am trying to keep my older versions until Apple can work up a patch.

Unfortunately, I find, after updating my iPad to ios9 that I can't sync because I'm keeping an old itunes.

Message says: "ipad cannot be used because it requires 12.2.2 or later. Would you like to download now?"

Obviously, that means Apple wants me to download the bugfilled 12.3.1

Is there anyplace you know I can get 12.2.2?

I reverted to 12.3.0.44 and haven't had any real issues since removing 12.3.1. I did upgrade to El Capitan. I don't know about getting 12.2.2, but I should think you could download 12.3.0.44 from one of the non-Apple sites mentioned in these threads and do okay. I think I'd make a copy of your current iTunes, though, and keep it somewhere safe in case, for some reason, you have trouble w/ 12.3.0.44. But the latter seems to have worked for quite a few of us who had trouble w/ 12.3.1.23. I'll paste here what I've listed elsewhere:

This is from other people. Worked for me, anyway.

Download 12.3:

Then:

  1. Open the Terminal
  2. Run "sudo rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app"
  3. Re-install iTunes

Also, be aware that when it asks for your password, the password won't be visible as you type it. After you type password, hit enter and iTunes should be deleted.

After I reinstalled 12.3.0.44, things worked as before. Note: I had to restart to my iMac before the version number in Finder matched the actual version number found by looking at "About iTunes" in the menu. Also, I then ran repair disk permissions via OnyX. It showed some problems w/ iTunes permissions, but those may or may not have been relevant to any of this problem.

Good luck and hope this helps.

For now going back to version 12.3 helps. Thanks! iTunes is as fast as before the update to 12.3.1. A short spinning ball every now and then. It's definitely not where it should be as iTunes already started to perform less since version 10.something. But for now better as in "Now it works compared to s*cks big time". Thank you Apple for continuously screwing up. Guess it's all about the benjamins for you, while leaving your hardcore followers out there in the cold by only thinking in front-end solutions rather then back-end solutions.

You do not need to add Run and you shouldn't add the quotes.

You will need to put in your computer's password.

Also note that after you've installed the older version of iTunes, you should go into your system preferences and choose App Store, then take the check off of Install App Updates and Automatically download apps purchased on other Macs.
