Facetime - Another App using the camera during a call.

Hello,

Not sure what is happening here but I hope someone will be able to explain.

I was having a Facetime chat with someone when all of a sudden the camera dropped out a few times (for a around 2 seconds) during the call. My friend said a message on her iPhone 6 said that the camera is being used by another app.

I thought that Facetime was secure? If Facetime is being used, why would another app have access to the camera. That don't make sence to me, but if someone could explain why another app can have access to the cameras during Facetime that would be great.

Not happy about this to be honest.

My first thought would be an erroneous message. Error message are often misleading.

I'd reboot both devices.

force power down if the above give you trouble.

Hold down both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button. Ten seconds or more. Hold until the Apple logo appears.

HI

I also had a similar problem; I got the same error message during a facetime call Morocco. I said something in jest about the autocracy there whilst speaking to my wife. A few minutes later I got the message 'you camera is being used by another application' and and my camera light flashed as in it took a picture. Very suspect. Really worried about spying or something to that effect. I thought I would publish here to see if anyone else has had a similar experience?

QUite worried also

Should not matter that if there are others apps open on the iPhone.

I thought that facetime and iMessage were secure, so when using FaceTime, why would another app have access to the camera and microphone when in theory FaceTime should have priority and refuse access to other apps.

I'm a software developer (building automation) by trade and adding access and privileges is a must.

Why hasn't Apple done this?

s'cuse me; I didn't notice that you're an expert! I coudn't assume that based on the definition of your problem.

The only idea I had was to do a step further in solving your problem by analyzing what apps have access to the camera of your device.

I totally aggree with you that's up to the OS/ programers to refuse access to the camera when any app already has access to the camera. But as we all know, not all programers pay regard to "the must".

Anyway, when you know what apps have access to your camera you have the chance to avoid the problem without complaining that the OS doesn't work properly.

This is a forum of users not of Apple.

good luck
