Vmware / Virtual box running on Snow leopard

I got a TV dongle http://www.amazon.co.uk/August-DVB-T208-Freeview-External-Computers/dp/B008D8HWX O , the Mac software that came with it is crap, and only gets 20 channels out of 140. I tested the dongle on My Mavericks machine, the same result with the packaged software. Then booted into windows 7 bootcamp, installed the windows version of the packaged software, same result, but when I used Windows Media Centre in windows 7 it managed to get all 140 channels. So looks like windows media centre is the best choice, so on my Snow Leopard machine, I thought of installing vmware and run windows media centre via that... vmware installed is greyed out with a no entry sign. Will I have to get an older version of vmware ? Will virtual box do ? If none of them work, and I have to bootcamp the Snow Leopard machine, can I bootcamp windows 7 or would I have to bootcamp Vista or XP Media centre edition ?
