Problem with Sound after Fresh Install Windows 10

Question

I recently purchased a copy of Windows 10 (iso image) for my MacbookPro (13-inch, Mid 2012) currently running El Capitan (10.11.1). After installing windows and all the support files and drivers I realized that no sound was playing through either the speakers on the MBP or headphone jack and whenever I used the volume buttons it would just give me a no symbol. I&#x27;ve tried many things such as re-downloading the support files from bootcamp and running them on Windows, however that did not work. I have also tried directly downloading drivers from both Realtek and Cirrus and installing those to no avail. Finally I started messing around with the drivers on Windows and installed an Intel audio driver which let me change the volume and allowed the laptop to be able to identify that sound was being played, however would still not play any sounds through speakers or headphone jack. As a result I can use a bluetooth speaker and headphones to play sounds, but this is not convenient and a pain to setup each time I want to use Windows. Is there something I can try in order to get the audio drivers to work? Please help!Information to note: I did not use bootcamp to create the partition on my MBP, because when I tried using Bootcamp to install Windows, windows could not recognize the flash drive and would not install (Insisted that I did not have the required drivers to continue, when I used Bootcamp for support drivers in the first place). Instead I used utility disk to create a partition then booted through EFI in order to finally install Windows, could this be the reason that the audio is not working?

Mac Models prior to Late 2013 models are preUEFI models and do not properly support EFI Boot for Windows. BCA will not recognize a USB containing Windows installation media. You can use your W10 Product Key to download an ISO to the Mac directly from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/home . Do not use a mixed 32-bit/64-bit ISO, it will not work. Download a 64-bit only ISO and use BCA. Intel drivers use generic devices, so your 2012 will not support Digital Audio (TOSLink - S/PDIF), which BC drivers do support.This is an example from a W8.1 on same model as yours with Audio working.

There are differences. If you use a USB as the destination for the download, it is not a single ISO file but the contents of the Installer ISO. If you download the ISO to your OS X Documents folder, and use BCA to create the installer which combines the contents of the ISO and the Pre-boot (WinPE) drivers needed for installation. The second check box in BCA is meant to get the WinPE environment drivers which enables keyboards, mice, BT, wireless, etc.You can get black screen because of several reasons. If you use a USB3 flash drive, it will not work. If the correct WinPE is not loaded, your screen will be black. Thanks for the quick reply! I just double checked and the iso I just downloaded using your link (made sure it was 64-bit) is the exact same iso which I downloaded from Microsoft in the first place. The reason I ended up using the EFI Boot was because I could not for the life of me get BCA to install windows on my machine. BCA would correctly partition my drive, however after the restart, it would simply load to a black screen and sit there (I even left it for up to an hour to be sure). After that I forced a restart then selected the new partition however I got the message "No Bootable Device -- Insert boot disk and press any key" even though the usb with the ISO image was still in my MBP. Should I just delete windows, undo the partition, and try it all again from the beginning?

Okay so I was using a USB3 flash drive, so I&#x27;m assuming that is why it was not working in the first place. I will restart the SMC/NVRAM and then completely start over by uninstalling windows and undoing the partition, then finally start from the beginning again and installing through BCA... hopefully I will not have any issues this time around. Since DU was used to create the EFI, you have to be careful. EFI installs create additional partitions (MS Reserved) so you need to ensure a clean &#x27;cleanup&#x27;. 😉Can you post the output of the following commands from OS X Terminal?diskutil listdiskutil cs listsudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0sudo fdisk /dev/disk0The "sudo" commands will prompt for your password, and it will not be echoed back. You may also see a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss due to "abuse" of the command.

Yes I see the additional partition, however it is pretty small (16 mbs I believe). The challenge now is if you use DU to delete both, your OS X storage will not increase, because of the Recovery HD in the middle. Can I suggest that you backup OS X via Time Machine, boot into Internet Recovery, erase your internal disk, and restore from Time Machine Backup? It is much cleaner.

Just wanted to reply in order to say that my issue was fixed. I actually ruined my laptop (accidental water spill) and had to purchase a new one, despite that, on this new laptop I installed windows 10 just fine using bootcamp. Aside from some small resolution issues (having to do with retina display vs windows 10 I assume) everything is working perfectly including the sound! Thanks for all the help.

Excellent. Please backup OS X and Windows. Use a separate external disks, if possible.
