I am using Office 365 and I believe it is Office 2013. My PC is a 64 bit machine. I call Apple support multiple time and chat online with them several time also. The first support agent told me is a Microsoft issue and was being a jerk. He supposedly transfer me to a direct line at Microsoft that deal with this issue but I got the call center in India instead. That led to no where.
I call again and they told me to update my phone which I did and face the same.
The last one told me to uninstall iTunes in the following sequence:
1. iTunes
2. Apple software update
3. Apple mobile device support
4. Bonjour
5. Apple application support
It worked for one sync.
I then updated iTunes to 12.3.1 hoping for result and it worked for 2 sync. Now it is back to the same, stuck at "preparing to sync".
I was going to update my machine to Window 10 to see if that help but looks like it yield the same result since you are on Window 10 according to your other post. Sounds like Wi-Fi sync is acting the same. My last attempt will be using iCloud but that is only a one way sync.
