It's mostly compatible. What's missing is:

1) The Siri command

2) The Home command

The Home command may appear to work but the long press behaviour doesn't work as it does on the remote supplied with the AppleTV. A long press of Home is supposed to bring up a menu with an option to put the AppleTV into sleep mode. I tried to program this as the "off" behaviour, but couldn't get it to work.

Additionally, although the new remote of the AppleTV has an IR transmitter - that's only for the Volume Up/Down buttons, so you can't teach commands to the Harmony remote yourself.

I have a Harmony 650 which by the way is a real dance to use with a Mac. (Hint, you have to download the App under the "Elite" model even though you don't have an Elite). Anyway, at first I couldn't figure out how to get Siri working with the remote. Then the lightbulb went on. IR does not transmit voice commands and that is what this button does. The remote for ATV 4 must have IR and BT and the Siri but uses the later. I am going to experiment with the Apple Remote to see if I can control my AV receiver and TV but I am not optimistic.

Either I am way off base or you are not understanding my post. The ATV remote transmits the Siri commands over Bluetooth which is capable of transmitting speech. The Harmony 650 and for that matter all the Harmony models except the $350 version only transmit IR. Therefore, I can't see how the MyHarmony app could possibly add a Siri command. On the other hand, I have tried to customize the ATV remote to control the volume on my AV receiver by learning the command from the 650 but have had zero luck.

The new (4th gen) ATV has 3 ways to communicate: HDMI-CEC (allows communication between TV's and devices via HDMI cable), IR, and Bluetooth. I'll explain a few options in case your TV doesn't support HDMI-CEC. Option 2 is what should work for most Harmony IR Remote users with a relatively newer TV.

Option 1: If your TV supports HDMI-CEC the Apple TV Remote can tell the Apple TV to change things on your television like Volume.

Option 2: It works the other way too. Your Harmony IR Remote (like the One) can send commands to your television and your television, if it supports HDMI-CEC, can tell the Apple TV what to do.

Option 3: The Apple TV Remote also transmits IR to control your TV if your TV doesn't support HDMI-CEC.

Edit: Forgot to say the ATV can also receive IR signals. I only consider the HDMI-CEC because mine is hidden away so no line of sight for IR to work.
