updating to ios 9 on older ipad
I have an older ipad that only allows for IOS 5.1.1 and I'd like the IOS 9. It doesn't show on my ipad as a choice. Can I update?

Your first generation iPad cannot be updated beyond iOS 5.1.1.
System Requirements for iOS 9.0 and 9.1:
iPhone 4s or later
iPad 2 or later
iPad mini or later
iPod touch (5th gen)
It sounds as if you have a 1st Generation iPad. If that is the case, then you cannot upgrade past iOS 5.1.1. That would be why you are not seeing a choice to update.
The orginal 1st generation iPad cannot support an IOS version any higher than IOS 5.1.1.
The hardware in the iPad 1 is NOT capable of supporting newer IOS versions.
Sorry.
The original iPad is nearing the 6 year mark (April 2016), it has not received any updates since 2012.
You may want to consider upgrading to a new or "newer" ( used ) iPad model.
To insure some future proofing, I would recommend looking for 1st Gen. iPad Air models or greater.
iPad 2 and 3 models are having some issues with the most current iOS versions now available.
And many current iOS features are not supported on iPad 2, 3 and 4 models, either.
Hi
If you can upgrade to ipad air 1 32G it was £479.00 now £ 359.00
