iPhone 5c 8GB isn't really an iPhone

Bought an iPhone 5c 8GB yesterday. We added five contacts and tried to take a second photo when it tells us that it can't because there isn't enough storage.

Seriously?!?! We didn't install any apps. No music. One picture. Five contacts. If this phone is really a $350 glorified flip-phone, it should be marketed as such - not as a great budget-option smartphone.

So... Is there any way to reduce what's taking up space? Already tried looking through the Storage Management settings - deleted the latest iOS 9 update, which I'm not a fan of on older iPhones. Problem persists. The next few apps that are using up the most space are Messages and Calendar. We don't have any calendar events, and this phone has sent only two texts and a photo.

I'm surprised Apple would make such a poor experience. I knew 8GB was small, but I didn't expect it to make 80% of the features unusable.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

Unfortunately, that's the trade-off for purchasing an 8GB phone. If there seems to be an excessive amount of storage in "Other" it may be a software problem, but outside of that there really aren't many options. It really should be holding more than that, and as you purchased it yesterday you may be able to get a refund or exchange if it is a problem with the phone, there are trial periods with most carriers for a reason, but the phone itself only has 3.7GB usable after the software and there isn't any way to get rid of any built-in applications as per Apple's policies.
