Managing soundbar volume with Siri remote.

I've been having the same problems with my Samsung Soundbar and new AppleTV. Since my soundbar is bluetooth compatible I tried your workaround and it worked for me! Thanks for the tip.

Hopefully this works for other people while we wait for Apple to get this IR issue fixed.

I have a similar problem with my Sonos sound bar. It connects to the TV via optical cable. Instructions for using it include disabling the TV speakers via TV menu settings. When I do that, I get some level of sound control from the Siri remote, but I also get a "Not Available" message on the TV screen because it sees me trying to adjust the volume on the TV speakers. With SONOS, there is no remote to try to match up with the AppleTV or the Siri remote. I have finally just disabled the volume control on the Siri remote, but then if I touch one of those buttons, it wants me to turn it back on again.

On a related issue, the Siri remote can be set to turn the TV on. But can it turn the TV off too? I haven't seen that, and if it can't, why bother having it turn the TV on at all?

Until today.

I had been using my digital out from my TV for Audio to the soundbar for years, but I learned today that if your Samsung soundbar has HDMI pass through, use it! I ran the AppleTV HDMI out into the soundbar, then HDMI from soundbar to TV. Set TV to "anynet". Now I can use my appleTV remote to not only turn my tv off and on, but I am using it to control my Samsung soundbar volume.

I will say, it was real annoying to try to get this working. Had I not had to reroute some power and cabling for my home theater, I probably would still be using Bluetooth. When I had my soundbar off the wall, I noticed it had HDMI in and out.

TL;DR Use the HDMI passthrough function of the Samsung's Soundbar. It will in turn allow the Apple TV to control the volume.

i also have a Samsung soundbar - when I updated to latest software the remote stopped working. I reset the software and it automatically began controlling the soundbar 🙂

Does anybody still have this issue? I was looking at purchasing a Samsung sound bar but if I cannot control the volume with my Apple TV 4 remote it would be a deal breaker.

So I was able to link my apple tv 4th gen to my sound bar via bluetooth no problem BUT every time I re connect I have to go into the remote/devices and reconnect the bluetooth. I use a universal remote (Logitech Harmony) and I wish this was just part of the turn on feature. Any solutions? My husband isn't tech savvy and I know this constant step will annoy him.

I had the exact same problem.

I had to power off the Samsung soundbar before learning the infrared signal to the Siri remote. After turning on the soundbar again everything worked fine.
