Apple TV 4th generation

Can anyone please help me. I need help with setting up atv 4th generation to my multi zone Yamaha receiver. i have an hdmi cable running from my tv to my Yamaha home theatre receiver. I have a hdmi cable running from my Apple TV to my receiver. I previously had the 3rd generation and it had the optical outlet in the back and I used a 3rd party converter to run sound to my 2nd zone so that speakers inside and outside could have music playing at the same time. Now all I can do is play music inside on zone one but no zone 2 due to the optical

Hi there,

Yes, I received my unit yesterday and it worked perfect! Here is the information to the unit below... You'll need one HDMI cable to run from your apple tv to the unit and another HDMI from the other side of the unit to your receiver. The analog (red/white) cables will plug into your input on the back of your receiver that you utilize for the other zone. The unit will have a little toggle and I switched mine to 5.1 setting and my zone two worked perfect outside and the rest of my home including the (6) speakers I have on zone one. Good luck and hopefully this helps.

Not sure I understand your full setup or what equipment you have for zone two but if the Yamaha receiver has a second zone can't you just connect both zones into it and send the Apple TV's audio content to both zones simultaneously without needing optical? There are HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF audio out extractor adapters available at Amazon for $30 or so if you really need to go that route.

Thank you for your reply. i have a Yamaha RX-V667 Receiver and I also have speakercraft switch box. When you say " connect both zones into it" What exactly do you mean? My Apple TV is connected via HDMI to one of the (5) HDMI outlets I have on my receiver. my tv is connected to my receiver via HdMI Also. hopefully this sheds some light on my current situation.
