Apple TV wakes up randomly (and switches on TV)

What do you mean you "closed all apps"? Do you mean "quit all apps"?

I had this same problem and the following solved it for me. After I did this my Apple TV 4 would not wake again.

• 1. Double click on the home button of the Siri remote. All launched apps will appear, like on iOS devices.
• 2. Swipe up and quit each open app.

I can now confirm that it's not there, so it's not just you. I must have seen it somewhere and misunderstood - probably they were referring to doing this on the TV. I've only had mine up and running for a couple of hours so I don't know whether it's going to be turning itself on. (It's not connected to the TV anyway, but via an Oppo Blu-Ray player, hopefully it can't turn that on).

You could try complaining to Support, so that they at least can't say they weren't told - it shouldn't be doing this.

Ive just received my ATV4 & am also finding it turning on when not required. There is an option for it to control a TV/Home theatre system, so Ive turned that off which has cured the TV source switching when the ATV boots.

MIne seems to get triggered when accessing certain apps on my iphone although Im trying now to make it start up & it wont!

Our TV will auto detect when a source is turned on. The AppleTV as mentioned seems to wake up every 30 minutes or so. I found a setting in the TV to turn off auto-detect. Haven't had a chance to see it if works. Hope so. I'd hate to have to unplug the Apple TV when not using it :-)

Just got the 4th gen AppleTV today and I'm having the same problem. I wanted to get the new AppleTV for the CEC functionality but the random turning on really make it useless. Hopefully Apple will fix this soon with a patch.

I have the same issue. But also when i use the ATV remote to turn off the both the Tv and the ATV all good for 30 seconds or so then the tv comes back on without the ATV (just a blank screen). for the record using with a Sony TV

I think I may have found a fix for my particular case. Let me know if it works for you.

I have it so that the "Computer" app on the AppleTV can connect to my iMac so I can access stored content. If I don't put my computer to sleep, the AppleTV will turn on because it must be connecting to the computer. I don't know if this is all coincidence but every time I've put my computer to sleep, my AppleTV doesn't automatically wake up.

I'm having the same annoying issue, while playing Netflix (or HBO/Showtime) usually pause and stop, go all the way back to Apple TV's main menu and select sleep (turn off all devices), at first this works but unfortunately it turns back on my Samsung TV after around 2-3 minutes.

Using Apple TV 4th gen, tvOS 9.0.1.

I also have a SONY Bravia TV and the new AppleTV randomly turns itself back on after I turn everything off using the Siri Remote. Others are also posting about this here: AppleTV 4 keeps waking up

Quitting all apps helped me.

Try going to Settings>Remotes and Devices and turning off 'HDMI-CEC'.

I'm suffering from HDMI issues with the Apple TV 4 but have noticed that there is no option to turn off HDMI-CEC in the Settings\Remotes and Devices menu.

Mine hasn't arrived yet so I can't check directly. I'd seen a reference to this setting but now I can't find any documentation to confirm or deny it.

Before you turn TV off change the imput to normal tv then if Apple TV comes on your Tv will stay

On standby .
