itunes program not responding

My Itunes program is not responding. Any ideas what I need to do to fix the problem?

Are you talking about, when you open iTunes up and then it just goes to "Not Responding?" I got that error when I open up iTunes as well. It says, Updating Library then it starts downloading a Podcast or something and goes into "Not Responding."

I really don't like it because I have a bunch of new music I'd like to put on my iPod. Can you please help us. 🙂

My problem is similiar but my computer will not even boot up itunes. The hour glass will think and then nothing.

some preliminary questions aimed at narrowing in on possible culprits.

(1) do you have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on the PC?

(2) try launching your QuickTime. does it:

(a) launch perfectly fine?

(b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)

(c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)

(3) reboot the PC. bring up your Task Manager, and click on the "Processes" tab. now try to launch itunes again.

does an "itunes.exe" process appear in the Processes tab? if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?

hmmm. if you disconnect from the internet prior to launching itunes, does itunes still hang?

if not, try switching off automatic downloading of your podcasts. close itunes, reconnect to the internet and launch itunes again. does she still freeze for you?

if that stops the freeze, can you let us know what podcasts seemed to be causing the freeze for you?

Since upgrading to 7.0.2.16, we have experienced freezing problems in Windows. Itunes starts fine and plays okay, but after about 10 songs, it stops and freezes the computer. The only fix is to kill Itunes in the Task Manager and start it again.

We also notice that the computer freezes between songs. If I am doing something else like word processing while listening to Itunes, everything stops for a second or two while the next song comes on. I think that this between song freeze is the problem, at some point this small freeze becomes a big one.

None of this happened in the first few versions of Itunes that we started with. It was quite bulletproof. How do I de-install the upgrade and get back to the earlier versions? The upgrade path isn't shown in the control panel, add remove software window.

When I try to open iTunes, I receive an error message that "iTunes has encountered an unexpected problem and needs to close". QuickTime won't launch either. I double-click on it and nothing happens.

the QuickTime problem is probably causing the iTunes problem. (itunes needs a properly functioning QuickTime in order to work correctly.) but based on the way it's behaving for you, i'd like to check on a potential complicating factor before we proceed.

have you ever installed a K-Lite or ACE Mega Codec Pack on the PC? if so, what version?

I've installed the K-Lite Codec Pack 2.76 Basic on my computer. iTunes and QuickTime still won't launch. THis is so frustrating.

I´ll take my chances and reply to this as I have exactly the same problem.

(1) do you have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on the PC?

No, F-secure AV 2006. Still, I disabled it

(2) try launching your QuickTime. does it:
Launching QT before iTunes works well. No problem. Launching QT after I´ve tried to launch iTunes, nothing happens.

All the processes remains under the processes tab.
The itunes.exe is impossible to kill though. I can remove any other process but this one is impossible.

I tried reboot, disabled the internet connection and my anti-virus but it still refuses to start. I just get the hour clock, that disappears and then...nothing. Not even an error message.

Oh, I forgot: after I´ve tried to start iTunes I can´t access Explorer. Program not responding. So I must reboot after every attempt to resolve the problem.

I've installed the K-Lite Codec Pack 2.76 Basic on my computer.

installing Codec Packs like that can cause the itunes and QuickTime problems. the problems arise when the Codecs and/or QT processes installed by the Packs are of lower versions than the codecs for the lowest version of QuickTime that is required for your version of itunes to run.

were any QT codecs installed with that Pack? if so, which version of QuickTime were they for? (precise version number, please.)

In reply to myself.
As its IS Sunday I don´t expect an answer right away.
And instead of just writing "please help" in every thread available I tried to use the search function.

Anyway, whilst waiting I´ve tried this:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302386
Nope, didn´t solve the problem.
And I logged in on another, fresh, account but to no avail.
Still, just the hour glass and then nothing. Just a computer that I have to reboot. Oh, I also tried three different anty-spyware programs just to be sure. But no, still nothing.
