Imovie 11 crashes with OS El Capitan

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011), Processor 2,4 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB, OS X El Capitan 10.11.1.

Imovie 11 crashes at random when trying to add a transition, text, importing a movie, etc..

It is enough frustration that the beachball is now ever present everywhere and that I can't even open Google Chrome since I've upgraded to El Capitan 10.11.1, now I cannot edit video which is what I mainly use the Mac for.

I can't uninstall Imovie since I have many unfinished projects that I can't lose.

Please advise.

I am having exactly the same problems with iMovie and El Kapitan. And this is my version of iMovie

At this immediate point, I do not have access to my back-up disc, so I cannot revert to Yosemite. I have subscribers hoping for some recent videos and essentially my MacBook Pro is junk as far as a video editing and production tool.

Did we ever determine if you are running iMovie v9 or iMovie v10?

Were you ever able to get iMovie v10.1 onto your Mac? If so does it still crash?

Several of the other discussions on the problem of crashing with iMovie 10 and El Capitan have suggested re-installing iMovie v10. Have you tried that?

As I said several times I am running 10.1 and, yes, I uninstalled and reinstalled; I went so far as to delete all preferences, caches and other ~/Library containers and started a new imovie library. iMovie still promptly crashed after starting and quitting it.

i buy new iMac few days ago for i can combine visual n audio with the beat marker function. Sadly i can't do that with my new computer.

Or anyone know another app that make me can to can do that. Thanks for the help

I had a similar problem with iMovie 10.1.2. Created a new library by holding the option key while I started iMovie. Problem went away. I assume that the previous library got corrupted somehow. Thanks for the tip.
